David M. "Howdy" Unfried

Evansville - David M. "Howdy" Unfried, 80, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at the Select Specialty Hospital. He was born February 7, 1941, in Evansville, to the late Clarence and Catherine (Zeggling) Unfried.

Howdy graduated from Memorial High School in 1959 and served in the Army National Guard. He worked for Whirlpool, ANSCO, and retired from Ferro Plastics. Howdy was a member of the VFW 2953 and the American Legion #44 Kapperman Post. He was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Howdy enjoyed going to his river camp, grilling, and spending time with his family and friends.

Howdy is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sue (Will) Unfried; daughter, Angie (Darin) Yocum; step-sons, Bill (Lona) Mangold, David (Laura) Mangold, and Robert Roach; step-daughter, Debbie (Gary) Hachmeister; grandchildren, Ireland Yocum, Dawson Yocum, Isabelle Yocum, Emily (Travis) Goodman, Jamie Mangold, Kendra (Cody) Richter, Jason Brunck, Jessica (Don) Howard, Jonathon Roach, and Nicole Roach; seven great grandchildren; sister, Jeanette (Alan) Heidorn; brother, Tony (Kairon) Unfried; and nieces and nephews.

Howdy was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Catherine Unfried.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Avenue with a Memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2021 at the funeral home and a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1301 S. Green River Road, with Father Martín Estrada officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

I was very sorry to hear about my cousin, David's, death. My cousin, Maurice Hahn, sent me his obituary notice. Please accept our sincere condolences. Know your family is in our prayers. I am Lester Folz's daughter. I have fond memories of seeing David, Tony and Jeanette at the Unfried Family Reunions years ago. God bless you!
