Donald James DeShaney

Evansville, Ind.

Donald James DeShaney, 87, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at West River Health Campus.

Donald was born in Appleton, Wisconsin on February 20, 1929 to the late Lawrence and Leone (Lowenhagen) DeShaney. He retired after 32 years of service from the United States Navy as a Naval Supply Corp Officer. Donald volunteered his time to the Boy Scouts receiving the Lamb Award, the Silver Beaver and attained Vigil in the Order of the Arrow. He was a Master Mason, a member of the Hadi Shriners, the Scottish Rite, American Legion Post #317 and the VFW Post #1114. Donald was a faithful member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church and more recently the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and loved spending time with his family.

Donald is survived by his daughter, Janice Lynn Kahre (Greg) of Evansville, IN; son, Michael James DeShaney (Terry) of Francisco, IN; brother, Dan L. DeShaney (Diane) of Cheyenne, WY; grandchildren, Anthony Lee, Michele Lee, Katherine Brommeland (Mike), Katrina DeShaney, Benjamin Kahre; 6 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Ruby Irene (Finkbeiner) DeShaney in 2013; his daughter, Cheryl M. DeShaney; his parents; sister, Candy Maddison; and his brother, Thomas Earl DeShaney.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 1811 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, IN 47714 with Pastor Tom Wenig officiating. Entombment will follow at Park Lawn Cemetery where the Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites.

Friends may visit from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, June 27, 2016 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711 where there will be a Hadi Shriners walk through at 7:00 PM. Friends may also visit from 9:00 AM until service time on Tuesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer or the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 4400 Clayton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110.
