John G. Beckman, 90, of Evansville, Ind., passed away Sunday, February 10, 2013, at his home.
John was born January 27, 1923, in Evansville. He worked at Whirlpool Corp. as an analytical chemist for 31 years and retired in 1986, and then volunteered for Habitat for Humanity for 12 years. He was a life long member of Saint Benedict Cathedral. John graduated from St. Benedict's, Reitz Memorial High School in 1941, and Purdue University.
John is survived by his sister, Mary Wolf, of Eldorado, Ill.; sons, Daniel of Indianapolis, Ind., Thomas, Michael and David (Terri), of Evansville; daughters, Nancy Wiebke (David), of St. Louis, Mo., Sarah Stamps (David), of Nashville, Tenn., Mary Beckman and Margaret Weinzapfel (Jim), of Evansville; grandchildren, Jordan Stamps, Katie Lindsey, Lindsey Stamps, Laura Beckman, Eric Stamps, Margaret Beckman, John Beckman, Luke Beckman, Chris Beckman, Joe Beckman, James Beckman, Jennifer Beckman, and Alex Weinzapfel; great-grandson, Eli Beckman.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Annagene in 1993; and by his brother, Bill who died in 2012.
Funeral services will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at Saint Benedict Cathedral, 1328 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, IN. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, February 11, 2013, at Browning Funeral Home where a rosary will be held at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Benedict Cathedral Catholic Church.
