Our Lord called Sister M. Andrew (Jeannette) Beckman to her eternal reward at 4:15 a.m. on Wednesday March 11, 2026. Sister M. Andrew died at Our Lady of Angels Convent in Mishawaka, IN.
Jeannette was born to Goerge and Thelma (Ray) Beckman in Gary, IN on July 8, 1934. She is survived by her brothers Tom and Charles and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her brothers, John, George, Arthur, and Richard, and her sisters Ann, Helen, and Mary.
She attended grade school at St. Edward School in Lowell, IN where she met our Sisters. She entered the aspirancy and completed her secondary education at St. Francis High School in Mishawaka. She entered the community on September 8, 1952 and was invested as a novice on August 12, 1953 and given the name Sister M. Andrew.
Sister M. Andrew taught in the elementary schools of the province in Louisiana, Indiana, and Illinois for eleven years. In 1966 she was assigned to Sacred Heart Convent in the Philippines where she served for eight years in domestic services. She returned to the United States in 1974and was assigned to St. Francis Convent, Mishawaka. Over a period of twenty-four years she faithfully and lovingly served in the chapel, laundry, housekeeping, sewing room, refectory, as chauffeur, and a convent vicar from 2004-2009. She did whatever she was assigned with kindness, humility, and a delightful sense of humor. In her quiet and loving way, she served her Sisters, always wanting to remain out of the limelight.
One of Sister Andrew's projects was developing starts of evergreen trees. Eventually, she planted them from the garage west toward the property line. They eventually became a much appreciated wind block for the priests' residence. Another hobby was quill art. She transformed narrow strips of paper into beautiful flowers, animals, or figurines.
She served at Our Lady of Angels Convent for eighteen years as the housekeeping supervisor. In addition to guiding and supporting the housekeeping staff, she nursed innumerable injured birds back to health. Her kind and gentle spirit was an inspiration to all.
Sister M. Andrew retired to Our Lady of Angels Convent in 2016 where she could continue her favorite occupation of Eucharistic Adoration.
With gratitude for her life and vocation and her witness of a life of total dedication to her Spouse, her Sisters, and all those she served, we say goodbye to Sister M. Andrew. May she now rejoice for all eternity in the presence of her Spouse whom she so faithfully served for seventy-two years in religious life. The Eucharistic funeral liturgy and burial for Sister M. Andrew will be on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Convent Chapel. Burial will follow in the convent cemetery.
