Born on Nov. 17, 1921, Mildred lived a long and prosperous life in Evansville, Ind. She died at Deaconess Gateway Hospital after a long illness. Mildred had worked for a time at Siegel's Uniform, and during World War II, she worked at the Republic War Factory in Evansville, Ind. She was a life member of the VFW, Auxiliary Post 1114, American Eagles Post 427, and the American Legion Post 425. She traveled extensively to Europe, Hawaii, and other areas of the world. Besides traveling, Mildred loved tending to civic duties, entertaining, dancing, visiting friends and caring for loved ones. She always had a happy personality and enjoyed entertaining her family with her delicious home cooking as she was a superb cook. Mildred was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and a past member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, both located in Evansville. She attended school at St. Paul's Lutheran as a child. She had numerous friends and family members.
Her family consisted of one daughter, Nancy Morris and her husband, David; and her son, Randall Montgomery and his wife, Donna Marie. Mildred had five grandchildren, Sherri Peachee and her husband, Troy, David Morris Jr. and his wife, Lori, Randall II, Andrea and Christina Montgomery; and three great-grandchildren, Ethan Peachee, and Rachel and Allison Morris. She is also survived by her sister, Louise (Lockyear) Howard of Chandler, Ind.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter William; her mother, Mary (Gilham) Lockyear; her two sisters, Fern Beliles and Ruthalee Osterkamp; and her dear friend and companion, Chester Brace.
She will be truly missed by her closest family members; we know she is now in peace with the Lord.
Services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave. Visitation will be on Thursday, Nov. 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Her final resting place will be along side her husband, Walter, in Park Lawn Cemetery. The family wishes to express their love and gratitude to the Newburgh Health Care Center, and in the last few hours, to the fine, caring staff at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.
