Thomas Buffington Obituary
Rev. Buffington was a Baptist Minister, graduating seminary in 1957. He served in the ministry for over 62 years. Rev. Buffington was a former Director at Camp Joy in Harrison, Tenn. His areas of ministry include Emmanuel Baptist Church in Liberty, S.C., Calvary Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, Ind. and First Christian Church also in Mt. Vernon, Ind. He was a member and past president of the Tri-State Fundamental Minister's Fellowship.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister.
He is survived by his loving wife and caregiver of 55 years, Minerva "Minnie" (Knight) Buffington, of Mt. Vernon, Ind.; his daughter, Dolores M. (John) Pyer, of Lafayette, Ind.; and his granddaughters, Kaitlyn M. and Abigail E. Pyer; his sisters; his brothers; as well as nieces; and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at First Christian Church, 1403 Country Club Road, in Mt. Vernon with burial to follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2011 at Schneider Funeral Home 512 Main St. in Mt. Vernon and continued on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 from noon until service time at the church.
At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Mt. Vernon Food Pantry at P.O. Box 228 Mt. Vernon, IN 47620.

Minnie, Dolores and Family,
Death is a sad time for the loss of a loved one. Please accept my condolences for his passing. However pastor Buffington is now in a place he had always dreamed of. He was one of the most important people in my life while guiding me as a teen in SC. I wish you both peace in the knowledge of knowing his eternal happiness.

Although you and Buff have been gone from here for years, your so in our hearts, you stood by me in the most difficult times of my life, May Heaven be all for Him until you get there Minnie, give Dori a hug from me.

Beth and I are saddend to hear of the homegoing of "Buff." He was my pastor during my teen years and a tremendous example and encourgement. He gave me some fof my first chances to preach. May God bless his memory and May God bless Minnie and Delores and family.

Pastor Tom and Minnie have been an inspiration and blessing to Corene and I. They have been faithful servants of Christ and His Church. Alway encouraging and showing Christ's love. I would meet Tom almost daily in the Hospitals. Time and distance was no obstacle for Him.. Many souls have been saved because of His ministry.

Pastor Tom and Minnie were such an important part of our lives, we considered them a part of our family. Pastor Tom married both of our children and was present when our children and grandchildren were born. Pastor and I used to have some really good laughs when I would do the church bulletin about the funny mistakes I made. We will miss him greatly. Love you Pastor Tom. Our prayers to Minnie, Dolores and the family.

To the Buffington family---
So sorry to see that Paster Buffington has passed away. I don`t think I ever met a kinder man in my 76 years on this earth. I was a member of Mill Road Baptist in Evansville & my first wife Alma Dean Hamby was a teacher at their school.
Pastor Tom was always a delight to be around. Having recently buried my own DEAR 2nd Wife, I do know how to & will pray for your family.
