I moved into the neighborhood 7-8 years ago. One day one, Tom came over and introduced himself. I could tell then that he was a good man. As time went on I went from becoming his neighbor to being friends and as we all know time passes so fast and we are all so busy. Over the last 4 years I grew to admire and respect Tom more and more. I am really regretting that I didn't go to the tractor pull he asked me to go to. That I didn't ask him to go to a boxing match with me and that I didn't have the chance to say good bye. He had always looked out for me. My work is seasonal and Im guessing he knew I hadn't worked in awhile and he would give me a few oddball jobs to help me make ends meet. I told him he didn't need to pay me.
I would always try to catch him out in the yard or in his shed to come visit. The past year I grew even closer to Tom, We worked on his lawn mower together, his trailer, would sit and talk for what seemed like for hours at times. We never talked about politics or religion. Just everyday run of the mill conversations. I have told many people about him digging that basement under his house and how nice it was.
Tom, I know you are watching me type this letter right now. I know that you are watching us all grieve over your passing to our father above. Now that you have moved on to a beautiful place. You will always be in my heart one of the finest men I ever had the pleasure of meeting. I really wish I told you this in person, but I know you would just smile and brush it off. God speed my friend, when we meet again I will have another plate of fried catfish for you. I will continue to look in your yard everyday to see if your there as I have for so many years.
