Walter Stahlschmidt Obituary

Walter J. Stahlschmidt, 58, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at his residence due to complications from diabetes and heart failure. He was born February 18, 1950.

Walter had lived in Evansville for over 20 years, also having a home on the Gulf Coast in Florida. He graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1972 with a degree in journalism. While in Evansville, Walter worked in real estate and wholesaling fine jewelry. He belonged to the Evansville Kennel Club, Evansville Country Club and the South West Florida Golf and Racquet Club.

Walter was the grandson of Frank and Bernice Ford of Evansville. Mr. Ford was at one time the editor of the Evansville newspaper and later the Editorial Director for Scripps Howard in Washington, D.C. He was the son of Walter J. and Carolyn Ford Stahlschmidt of Evansville, who are both deceased.

He is survived by his two brothers, Frank Ford Stahlschmidt of Moraga, Calif., and Ford L. Stahlschmidt of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Services 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Kevin Fleming, burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
