Lois Michael Obituary

Lois Jean Michael, age 94, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December, 31, 2024 with her loving family by her side.
Lois was born on August 11, 1930 in Martins Ferry, Ohio; the daughter of the late William Elwood and Marjorie (Goff) Finney. Lois attended and graduated at the age of 16 from Martins Ferry High School where she was a 2-year member of the National Honor Society. After high school, Lois attended West Liberty State College where she earned her teaching degree. On July 28, 1951, Lois married the love of her life, the late Robert L. Michael, in the First Presbyterian Church of Martins Ferry. The loving couple were able to share 67 marvelous years together and their devotion to one another and their families were seen by all who knew them.
A woman of profound spiritual devotion, Lois had an enduring relationship with her faith, which shaped every aspect of her life. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, contributing generously of her time and talents to numerous ministries and organizations. Whether she was assisting with church events, teaching Sunday School or offering a kind word or deed to those in need, Lois' presence was a beacon of light and warmth to all who knew her.
Lois was also a passionate educator, beginning her teaching at the age of 19 with a Cadet Certificate, teaching 5th and 6th graders. She would go on to devote many years to teaching at two elementary schools, ending her teaching at Pleasant Elementary after 30 years. In retirement, she volunteered at various schools for the next ten years. Her dedication to her students went beyond the classroom as she inspired and nurtured their growth with patience, kindness, and a deep love for learning. Many of her students remember her as a warm and kind teacher who believed in their potential and encouraged them to reach for the stars.
Lois' retirement years were spent traveling with her husband Bob, spending quality time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, making beautiful quilts with friends and crocheting Prayer Quilts with fellow women from her church.
Lois' legacy is one of grace, compassion, and faithfulness and her memory will forever live in the hearts of those she touched. Left to cherish her memory are her loving children: R. Timothy (Janet) Michael of Marion and Marlys (Jeff) Beatty of Rock Hill, SC; eight grandchildren; Leah Michael, Robert W. Michael, Kara (Jacob) Michael-Schmitt all of Richmond, VA, Ryan (Mor) Beatty of Franklin, TN, Erika (Craig) Derifield of York, SC, Kara (Corey) Myers, Emily (John Sellers) Dietsch, Kyle Dietsch all of Marion, eleven great-grandchildren: Henry Schmitt, Hazley Michael, Liam, Noah and Ellie Beatty, Jack and Zayn Derifield, Mason and Madeline Sellers, Carter and Khloe Myers. Her cherished brother Richard (Carole) Finney of Harrisville, OH and sister-in-law, Carol (Tom) Pulay of St. Clairsville, OH and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM; Saturday, March 8, 2025; at First Presbyterian Church 143 S Prospect St, Marion, OH. A Memorial Service honoring her life will follow at 11:30 AM, with Rev. Jerry Kasberg officiating. Family and friends are welcome to remain at the church for a fellowship meal in her memory.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wycliffe USA (preference for the Wycliffe ministry of Eric & Sue Bartels) PO Box 628200 Orlando, FL 32862 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
The family would like to thank the staff at Gentiva Hospice and the nurses and aides at Kingston Residence of Marion who fully and compassionately cared for Mom during 2024.

So sorry to hear about Lois. Thoughts and prayers to the family. I met Lois at Pleasant Elementary in the early 1970´s when I was doing my field experience during college. She was a wonderful teacher. Then this past year I saw her at Kingston when I did card making classes. We laughed as this time she was the student. She always had a smile and I enjoyed talking with her. She will be missed.
