Susan Brown Obituary

Susan Avery Brown spent her final breath in the early morning of Saturday December 23, 2023, surrounded by her two children. Her passing was a merciful end to a long struggle. Susan was born on January 31, 1946, in Union Springs, Alabama and spent many days in the town's library reading books with her librarian grandmother. Susan's family later relocated to Eufaula, Alabama, where her father ran the A&P grocery. She finished high school in 1964 and graduated with an Art degree from the University of Montevallo in 1969. In August of that same year, newly-married Susan moved to Crestview, Florida just in time to evacuate ahead of Hurricane Camille. After returning, she began teaching art at Richbourg Junior High School, would later move to the new Davidson Middle School, be elected Teacher of the Year and continue teaching thirty-five years before retiring. Some of Susan's best days were spent exploring Australia, painting flower blooms, being shadowed by her dog, Blaze, and spoiling her grandchildren. Susan was preceded in death by her father, William Thomas Posey, mother, Blanche Reid Posey, sister, Mary Jean Posey, and grandson, John Aiden Warren. She is survived by her children, Ian Avery(Laurel) and Allison Warren(John), her beloved grandchildren, Isabella, Logan and Avery, her brother, Dr. Robert Posey(Mary Helen), sister, Ellen Posey, and nieces and nephew.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.

Susan's life revolved around her family, and they are comforted in their faith that she knows them once again. A light has gone out in our world, but a new star shines in Heaven. Susan Avery Brown

I was sad to find out about Susan´s passing. She was a wonderful friend and neighbor when I moved to Crestview in 1979. We lost touch when I moved, reconnecting off and on over the years. My sons were close to the same age as Allison

Gosh I think about Mrs. Avery often as I do my art lesson plans. I wish I had reached out to her and had no idea that she had passed away. She influenced me in so many ways. She was a rock to a troubled youth and an inspiration for me to pursue art. I went on and received a degree and have been an art teacher myself. She was truly a blessing in my life at RMS so many many years ago. Thank you Mrs. Avery. You will always be an inspiration to me and I hope that I have passed that inspiration you gave on to my students. Much love to you!

I remember Susan fondly. She taught art lessons to youngsters at the Carnegie Library in the summer. Such a sweet person. Sending my sincere condolences. Cathy Steele Taylor

I am so sorry to read of Susan´s death. She was one of the most talented of our high school alumni, and her daddy, Mr. Tom, was an institution in Eufaula for his marketing of good will through the A&P. Kathy Couric Mottley

So sorry to hear this news. Susan grew up in Eufaula, AL and she and my oldest brother Forrest Petry dated for two years. Her sister Ellen and I were great friends and graduated together. I haven't seen her since graduation.
Forrest worked as a bagger and stock boy for her sweet and friendly dad, Tom Posey, at his A & P grocery store. I loved her mom and dad. Cherished memories of the Posey family!!
