Ann Bishop Obituary

Ann Teresa (Kanawall) Bishop
Bishop - Ann Teresa (Kanawall) Bishop
Born at Box 33, on her family farm, in Southport, CT on March 16, 1930, to Anna and Stephen Kanawall (Konoval), the last of ten siblings.
Ann lived in Southport all her life. She was a bookkeeper for the Savarin restaurant when it first opened, as well as a bookkeeper for The Clam Box in Westport. She and her beloved husband, James 'Jim' Bishop, owned the Westfair Smoke Shop in Westport for four years. After closing their business, Ann worked at R.T. Vanderbilt for 22 years and part-time in the cafeteria for Fairfield Public Schools until her retirement in 1996.
Ann had a green thumb and loved working in her garden, growing flowers and vegetables and giving them away to her many friends and neighbors. A lifelong animal lover, she cared for all of the neighborhood cats, her dogs Sophia and Max, and all of the birds in her yard.
Ann never met a slot machine or bingo game she didn't believe in. She was the undisputed queen of bingo, quick with her dauber and even quicker with a joke. Calling the numbers on Saturday game night was her time to shine, where she loved ribbing her family for not having good numbers.
She is survived by her grandchildren Jessie (Bret) Bishop, Jackie (Adam) Bishop, and Steven Bishop; her great-grandchildren Skyler Chernes and Greyson Strong; and her many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husband James, and her sons Wayne and Jim Bishop. She is also predeceased by her siblings Sophie Kanawall, Mary Orzag, Victoria Galko, Elsie Cadrin, John Kanawall, Adolf 'Otto' Kanawall, Joe Kanawall, Marty Kanawall, and Albert Kanawall.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Ann on Friday, August 8, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 149 South Pine Creek Rd., Fairfield, immediately followed by burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, August 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the FAIRFIELD FUNERAL HOME OF EDMUND W. DOUGIELLO, 36 South Pine Creek Rd., Fairfield.

I knew Ann all my life from St. Anthony´s parish where I was in Jim´s class. She was a lovely person who always had a smile on her face and something nice to say. My condolences to her family.
