Ann Lloyd Obituary

LLOYD Ann Storrs Lloyd, a longtime resident of Southport, Conn., died Friday, December 12, 2008 at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport. She was 82. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Whitmore Storrs of Fairfield, Mrs. Lloyd was born in Bridgeport on December 20, 1925. She attended Grasmere Elementary School in Fairfield, The Northfield School for Girls (now the Northfield Mount Hermon School) in Northfield, MA, and Stephens College in Columbia, MO. She also attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City and, in 1997, studied art history at Williams College in Williamstown, MA. She married Edward B. Lloyd of Greens Farms on June 19, 1948, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport, and lived with her husband and three children in Southport and Greens Farms. An avid reader and cat lover, Mrs. Lloyd designed her own line of women's clothing and also worked as a wedding planner in Fairfield County. Her hobbies included sewing and rug making. With her husband, she also renovated and remodeled a number of houses in Connecticut and Florida. Mrs. Lloyd was an ardent supporter of Pequot Library and Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport; Norwalk Hospital; and the Mercy Learning Center in Bridgeport, an organization that provides basic literacy and life skills to low-income women in the greater Bridgeport area. She also served as a volunteer at Pequot Library, Trinity Episcopal Church, and at her children's schools. Mrs. Lloyd is survived by her daughter, Susan Storrs Lloyd of Westport; two sons, Thomas Bedford Lloyd of Southport and John Bedford Lloyd of Katonah, NY; a brother, Thomas Storrs of Southern Pines, NC; and six grandchildren, Hannah Lloyd, Grace Lloyd, Alice Lloyd, Elizabeth Lloyd, Owen Karrel, and Thomas Karrel. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Edward, who died in 1990. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 651 Pequot Ave., Southport, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mercy Learning Center, 637 Park Ave., Bridgeport, CT 06604. Interment will be in the Willowbrook Cemetery, Westport. Arrangements are under the direction of the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.

Dear Susan and Tom,
During my time in Westport and Southport, I felt the pervading influence, and blessing, of the Lloyd Family. Ann's contribution to Trinity is one that will be felt, emotionally and spiritually, for a very long time.

Your loss now is fully shared by the many whose lives she touched.
