Ann Mester Obituary

MESTER Ann M. Mester, age 66, of Derby, beloved wife of 44 years to Joseph Mester, entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 26, 2004, at Hewitt Memorial Hospital in Shelton, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on July 23, 1937, a daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth Gido Basta. Ann was salutatorian of Ansonia High School, Class of 1955. A resident of Derby for 41 years, she was employed as a corporate secretary for the former Derby Savings Bank for 20 years. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Derby, and was active in church and school organizations, serving on the Church Finance Committee and the Home School Association. Ann was also a member of the Derby Historical Society. She loved to travel with her husband, and especially enjoyed Europe and Cape Cod. Survivors, besides her husband, include her cherished family: sons, Joseph J. Mester and his wife, Sue, of Pipersville, Pa., Chris Mester and his wife, Dawn, of Clinton, and Rick Mester and his wife, Sandie, of Naugatuck; daughters, Jean Mester of Cheshire and Lisa Green and her husband, Stu, of Naugatuck; and her sister, Helen Heffernan of Seymour. Ann was blessed with five grandchildren: Lauren, Kylie, Matthew, Morgan and Ethen Mester; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a half brother, Willard Basta. Funeral on Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at 8:45 a.m. from the Hylwa Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Derby. Burial in Mount St. Peter Cemetery, Derby. Friends may greet the family on Monday, March 29, 2004, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions in Ann's memory be made to St. Mary's Church Restoration Fund, 212 Elizabeth Street, Derby, CT 06418, or Hospice and Palliative Care, 680 Bridgeport Avenue, Shelton, CT 06484.

We are very saddened to hear of Ann's passing. My grandfather was Ann's half-brother, and over the years she kept our families in touch with each other. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of her many loved ones.
