Anne Auray Obituary

Anne Rosemary Auray
Anne Rosemary Auray, age 85, of Wellington, Florida, passed away quietly on Friday, September 26, 2025. Anne was born on April 1, 1940, to the late James Apicello and Irene Anderson of Fairfield, Connecticut. She was raised in Fairfield and spent her life traveling between Connecticut and Florida. Anne, a homemaker, married her husband, the late Delbert L. Auray Sr., in 1961. Together, they raised their family in Southport, Connecticut.
Anne attended Roger Ludlowe High School, graduating in 1958. That year, she was also named Miss Fairfield. As a young woman, Anne was a student of dance and theater and loved performing in local productions at venues like the Polka Dot Playhouse.
In 1995, she moved to Wellington, Florida, where she spent the winter months and rode her horse daily at the Palm Beach Polo & Country Club. She was also a member of the Fairfield County Hunt Club, where she enjoyed riding and showing horses, as well as the Patterson Club, where she relished playing tennis.
Above all, Anne loved her children and grandchildren. Following their tenth wedding anniversary celebration at Martha's Vineyard, Anne and Delbert Sr. returned each summer with their children. Anne nurtured this tradition over the years, creating a lasting family connection to the island that is celebrated with an annual reunion. Affectionately known as "Grammie," Anne often shared stories with her grandchildren about her horses and her travels with her husband. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, loyalty, and genuine kindness.
Anne is survived by her three children, Delbert Jr. (partner, Lisa) of Fairfield, Thomas (wife, Dea) of Easton, and Deirdre of Madbury, New Hampshire. She will be deeply missed by her nine grandchildren: Olivia, Brianna, Michael, Samuel, Jack, Mia, Jason, Tyler, and Lindsey, who will always remember her infectious laugh, generosity, and thoughtful cards.
Anne will be laid to rest alongside her husband at St. Michael's Cemetery in Stratford, Connecticut. Interment services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The BrightFocus Foundation to support Macular Degeneration Research.
