Barry Baker Obituary

Barry Baker
Barry Baker passed away peacefully, at home, on Sunday, March 24, 2024.
Barry leaves behind his loving wife, Meg (Zajac), and sons, Spencer (Michelle) and Tyler (Laura). He also leaves behind his greatest joys, his four grandchildren, Charlie, Colby, Olivia and Virginia. He is survived by his sister, Patricia (David Chadwick), as well as a loving, extended family. Barry was raised in Milford, CT, where he excelled in multiple sports, especially football. He was an All-State running back at Jonathan Law before heading to Milford Academy and ultimately being awarded an athletic scholarship to UConn, where he met his wife, Meg. He was inducted into the Milford High School Hall of Fame in 2023 and celebrated with many of his former teammates. Barry and Meg raised their family in Milford, where he owned Baker's Bar and Grille for over 20 years. Barry loved to host family and friends at the bar and often he could be found in a circle of friends, arms around each other, singing "Piano Man." He was an avid fan of UConn sports, the Yankees, and Bruce Springsteen. He was a man who lived life to the fullest and embraced everyone he met. He made all that he encountered feel like family, and those who knew him have many fond memories of times spent with him. He enjoyed traveling with friends and family and attending sporting events, no matter when and where they were located. He was proud that he never missed one of his children's games and could always be seen on the sideline, enthusiastically cheering them on. He leaves a lifetime worth of friends behind, including childhood friends, Uconn teammates, and many more he met along the way. In order to honor his legacy, we ask that you live life to its fullest because that is what he would have wanted.

Unfortunately. I just heard of Barry´s passing, today. I loved Barry´s personality. He made everyone around him feel important. I first met before high school in Devon as I would visit my relatives on Kay Avenue. The " Beach Kids as they called themselves . Quite a talented crew, led by Barry, of course. Once they accepted me, even though I lived in Bridgeport, I loved my visits to Devon. Through high school, I followed Barry´s heroics. He was a true star.As life would have it our paths crossed again after high school as Barry , Mike Murphy a Bball player from Harding and myself spent our summers together working at the Sprague Oil Meter company in the South End Bridgeport. We became the 3 musketeers that spent a lot of time together at and after work, shooting hoops etc.Never a dull moment when Barry was around. I wish I hadn´t lost touch with Barry. He represents all the best that life has to offer us. My sadness right now is strong. I do know, that my fun memories of Barry and his antics will always brin g a smile to my face.RIP, my friend.

While I haven´t been part of Barry and Meg´s life for several years I remember our JLHS and UConn days with much joy and fond memories. I will hold those memories forever...Barry as a great athlete and funny as all get out. Meg equally as funny and the strength to help Barry get through what most of us couldn´t do .
My thoughts are with you and thank you both for being part of my life.

I met Barry in Milford´s Pop Warner football team, graduated high school with Barry, and celebrated times & events with Barry at Baker´s Bar & Grill. Barry was always welcoming to me and my wife (Adriane Dunne) anytime I was in his company. Glad that I met Barry and played with him on our talented Jonathan Law High School football team. We accomplished good things with Barry and Lou Pietrini as our team captains. Rest in peace Barry. - Chris Dunne

Our deepest sympathies go out to Meg and the family on their tragic loss. Barry was larger than life and will be missed and remembered by many. Fond memories remain of celebrating St. Patrick's day with corned beef dinners in Baker's back room, and other good times in the bar. The last time we saw Barry was at the Milford Sports Hall of Fame dinner in 2023, where he was a fan favorite. He spoke to the crowd and Meg proudly filmed the wonderful moment. Rest in peace, Barry. So sorry to hear of Barry's passing. While coaching at Milford Academy, Notre Dame of Fairfield and Foran he was always supportive of our efforts and was a big fan. Going back to Baker's after a ND night game with parents and players and putting the tape in for the entire bar to enjoy was a great time with lots of laughs. Many good memories. May he rest in peace. Condolences to Meg, Spencer and Tyler.

Susan and I want to extend our sincere condolences to Meg and the Baker family. We have many great memories. Of Barry during our years of Little League coaching Barry was always an enthusiastic coaching fan for our teams. Also enjoyed many Friday night. Dinners at Bakers end. Of course they´re great. Summer picnics. Megan Barry especially good to our son Ryan, who enjoyed being over their house. I was extremely touched For the last phone call Barry made to us about three weeks ago. He talked about our son Ryan, and how much he loved him because they were so much alike. It meant so much to us because it came on the tenth Anniversary of Ryan´s passing. Are forever grateful for Meg and Barry and their friendship. God bless you Barry and your family who I´m sure are devastated as we are. Sincerely Bill and Susan Phillips.

Barry will be missed by many! He was a huge part of our lives and our children. He would call Hannah & Emma to talk about their swimming accomplishments and he would follow PJ´s golf matches. We have great memories of summer picnics, weddings, going away to RI & dinner at Bakers Bar. Every St. Patrick´s Day was celebrated with Barry & Meg at Bakers. We always knew when the phone rang on a Sunday football day, it was Barry to talk about a play the NY Jet´s had just made. He had a huge impact on us all and we will never forget! Rest easy my friend.
