Bridget Murtha Obituary

Bridget Murtha
Bridget Murtha, 91, of Fairfield, CT, passed away peacefully at St. Josephs Center in Trumbull, CT, with family by her side, on April 4, 2023, and joins her beloved husband, Joseph Murtha, and beloved daughter Emma Szanicz in heaven. Bridget was born in Cork, Ireland, on 25 March 1932, and is survived by her four sisters, Anne Bogan of Piscataway, NJ, Rita Ryan of Rahway, NJ, Myra Barron of Fredericksburg, VA, and Kathleen Logan of Shannon, Ireland, and her four sons, Joseph Murtha of Monroe, CT, Michael Murtha and his wife Denise Murtha of Harpswell, ME, Brian Murtha and his wife Kristin Murtha of Monroe, CT and Kevin Murtha and his wife Cherelle Murtha of Stratford, CT, along with 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Bridget was a longtime resident of Fairfield County where she lived with her husband Joseph for over 60 years. She worked in the Fairfield School system and at Birchwood Country club in Westport, CT, and was very active in Assumption Parish where all of her children attended church and school. Bridget was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who was the Matriarch of her large family, and her favorite thing was spending time with them. She was loved and looked up to by all and she will be sorely missed. A mass will be held for those who wish to attend on Saturday, 20 May 2023, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield, CT 06825. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association on behalf of Bridget. https://www.alz.org/ct
