Carlo Costanzo
Carlo Costanzo age 93 of Orange, Ct., entered into rest in the comfort of his daughter's home on July 17, 2023. He was born on November 4, 1929 in Calabria, Italy in the small cobblestoned town of Marzi. Son of the late Antonietta and Luigi Costanzo, Carlo came to the United States of America in 1947, and lived in New York for a short time before settling in Derby. He attended Bullard Haven Technical School in the evening for three years.
In his early years Carlo worked at Hull Dye and Print Works, Sikorsky Aircraft and Farrel Corp. until making a career with the State of Ct. Dept of Transportation where he retired as a Supervisor in 1979. He then came out of retirement and worked at Harvey Hubbell Corp. as a Maintenance Coordinator for 10 years until his second retirement in 1992. Carlo was a communicant of St Jude Church, Derby until it's closing. His funeral was held at Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Parish (St Mary's Church) in Derby where he was married 68 years prior to his beloved and devoted wife Yolanda.
He was a proud veteran of the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict as a radar specialist. His service was recognized at his funeral with military honors. He loved this country and was proud to be an American citizen. Carlo was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Milford, the American Legion in Orange and the Nutmeg Club in Derby for many years.
Carlo was a great lover of the outdoors. He loved all animals and nature. He had a profound interest in woodworking which he enjoyed immensely. Making clocks including grandfather clocks, as well as toy trains and trollies were his specialties. He was also very artistic and enjoyed painting numerous scenes of animals and sea life in their natural habitat. He also had a talent for making homemade wine, a tradition he brought with him from Italy.
Carlo loved to dance and he loved a party. He loved people in general, but especially he loved his family whom he cherished and lived for. Carlo was a hard worker, a good provider and always thought of his family first. He was the happiest when he had his wife, children and grandchildren together to either celebrate a special occasion, or to just eat pizza. And when everyone was together, he would sing to his own made up song , "My babies are back home!"
Carlo was survived by his wife Yolanda Poliferno Costanzo of Orange, his son Carl (Donna) Costanzo of Seymour, his daughter Lori-Ann (David) Carcova of Orange, grandchildren Marc Costanzo of Manchester, Carissa Costanzo of Naugatuck, Victoria Chiarello (John) of Wallingford and Patrick Carcova of Orange. Also left to cherish his memory are his several beloved nieces and nephews in the US and in Italy, sister-in-law Helen Poliferno of Derby, and sister-in-law Silvia Costanzo of Torino, Italy. He was also predeceased by three brothers Francesco (Ciccio), Fausto and Rosario (Russel) Costanzo all of Italy.
The family would like to thank Carlo's caring and devoted caregivers Mariama Edison and Paulette Winkle for their compassionate care and loyalty. The family would also like to thank the entire staff at AccentCare Hospice, especially Yamaris RN, Taryn ('the music lady'), and Chaplain Charles, for the unwavering compassion, care and love they gave to our father from the moment they met him until his death.
