Catherine L. Basta

BASTA Catherine L. Basta, age 95, of the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Joseph W. Basta, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late Joseph and Henrietta Callahan, she had been a lifelong Black Rock resident. Mrs. Basta was an active parishioner of St. Ann's Church. She was also a devoted fan of the UConn Women's basketball team and the New York Mets. She was an avid baker, loved spending time at the Saint Mary's, but above all else, delighted in time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include three children, Jean Grosner and her husband, Rich of Fairfield, Bill Basta of Gainesville, Fla. and Mell Bakach and her husband, Dennis of New Fairfield; a son-in-law, Roger Capobianco of Monroe; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen Capobianco. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 1, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. meeting directly at St. Ann's Church, 481 Brewster St., Bridgeport. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Calling hours have been omitted.
