Charles "Chuck" Edward Strom – 75, passed away at his North Main Street home in Waterbury, VT on his 75th birthday, January 20, 2019. Born in Brooklyn, NY on January 20, 1944, he was the son of the late Roland and Florence (Rantz) Strom. On September 24, 1966, he married the love of his life, the former Pauline Bonaiuto in New Britain, CT. Pauline predeceased Chuck on February 1, 2009.
Chuck was a 1962 graduate of Andrew Warde High School in Fairfield, CT. Enlisting in the US Army, he served his country during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Fairfield where he was employed as a machine operator at Chemical Color Plate Corp. in Bridgeport, CT, the producer of Marvel Comic Books. Moving to Shaftsbury, VT in 1986, he and Pauline purchased the Arlington Country Variety Store which they owned and operated for eight years. Chuck then worked many years in the restaurant industry until his retirement in 2009. He has since made his home in Waterbury, VT which enabled him to pursue his passion for fishing and hunting. In addition to being an outdoorsman Chuck was an avid sports fan (especially the New York Giants) and held an exceptional knowledge and love for 60's/70's rock and roll.
His memberships included the Harry N. Cutting American Legion Post 59 in Waterbury, VT, the Norden Club in Bridgeport, CT, the Elks Club Lodge 567 and VFW Post 1332, both in Bennington, VT. He had the ultimate respect and appreciation for those that have served and are currently active in defending our freedom.
Chuck is survived by his three sons with Pauline, Charles Edward Strom and his wife Kim of Bethlehem PA, and their children Brady and Summer, Roland David Strom and his fiancée Jennifer Pyne of Duxbury and Roland's children David and Hunter, Jonathon William Strom and his wife Angela of South Portland, ME and their children Lola and Ella; a sister, Arlene Strom and her partner Leona Brassell of Stratford, CT; a brother, Ronald Strom and his wife Jane of Haddam, CT; Charles was predeceased by a grandson, Adam Strom.
Services will be held at a later date in Connecticut.
