Christian O. "Chris" Grohe, Sr.
Seymour, CT: Christian O. "Chris" Grohe, Sr., 85, a longtime Seymour resident, entered into peaceful rest on Sept. 1, 2023 at Griffin Hospital, with his devoted family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 62 years to Joyce (Rollinson) Grohe. Mr. Grohe was born March 6, 1938 in New Haven, son of the late Otto and Anna (Schartig) Grohe. He was retired after 38 years from Sikorsky Aircraft, Stratford, working in Customer Service Engineering. He was a communicant of St. Nicholas Parish, Church of the Good Shepherd. He served in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam War. Chris was a Volunteer Firefighter and member and Past Captain of the Great Hill Hose Co. Chris was known to play Santa Claus on a fire engine during Christmastide while visiting many area homes to visit with children; additionally, he had the distinction of delivering eulogies to many fellow firefighters at their funerals. Chris was also a former Town of Seymour Fire Commissioner. He was also a valued Parking Lot Supervisor at Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home for many years. Chris enjoyed days out flying with his pilot granddaughter, Rebecca, spending time at outdoor family occasions, and travel with his wife and family.
Christian leaves his loving family including his wife Joyce, a daughter Beth Petronchak (Jim) of Ansonia; his grandchildren, Rebecca Petronchak and Christian James Grohe, and several nieces and nephews. His brother, Edwin, predeceased him.
Calling Hours are Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St., Seymour. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Rd., Seymour. Interment with full Military Honors will follow at Mountain Meadows Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Great Hill Hose Co., 140 Botsford Rd., Seymour, CT 06483.
