Clifford Higgs Obituary

HIGGS Clifford Joseph LaCroix Higgs, age 48, of Timberlake, N.C., formerly of Milford, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at University of North Carolina Hospital. He was born on July 15, 1959 in Bridgeport to Georgette LaCroix Higgs of Milford, and the late John Osborne Higgs. He graduated from Kay Avenue School where he was the recipient of the Donald G. Kelly Award for Leadership. Graduating from Cataba College in Salisbury , NC , he was currently finishing his thesis for obtaining his Masters Degree. Living in Timberlake for the last seven years, he was employed as a teacher for the Caswell County Board of Education. An active member of the community, he was a member to the American Umpire Assoc., Ansantawae Lodge #89 AF & AM and a former member of Sound of Freedom Choir and the Planning & Zoning Commission all in Milford. He earned his Eagle Scout Silver Palm and was still active with the Cub Scouts. He held a FCC license for broadcasting from Cataba Radio and had the honor of interviewing soccer great "Pele". Family and friends will remember him for his dedication to children and learning. Besides his loving mother, Mr. Higgs is survived by his sister, Sharon O. Suprenant of Palmer, Mass.; several cousins and dog Penny. His father and maternal grandparents Clifford J. and Olga Thury LaCroix predeceased him. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Smith and Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford . Masonic services will be conducted at 6:45p.m. The funeral service will follow calling hours at 7p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be in Kings Highway Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the charity of one's choice.
