Constance Dimock
Constance Leona Dimock passed away at home in Trumbull on August 2nd, 2019. She was 94. Born May 27, 1925 in Ludlow, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Leon Edwin and Florence Marion Dimock of Gurleyville, Ct., and the great niece of the late Honorable Wilbur L. Cross, governor of the State of Connecticut during the 1940's. Connie received her BA in Home Economics from the University of Connecticut in 1945 and completed her MS at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts. She moved to Trumbull in 1954 and took a position teaching Home Economics. She later became Supervisor of Home Economics for the City of Bridgeport school system, serving in that capacity until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional honor society of key women educators, and Altrusa International, a community service association, serving as president in District One from 1968-1970. A devoted daughter, sister and aunt, Connie had a generous spirit and loved family celebrations and holidays. She cherished her nieces and nephews, taking them on summer family vacations and supporting and encouraging their many interests and educational pursuits. She was the family historian and genealogist, traveling throughout Britain and New England to research her ancestors in churches, graveyards and various town halls. Leaving a lasting legacy, she compiled and published a book on her family lineage in 2000. She had a passion for travel, reading, UConn women's basketball, music and the performing arts, and anything British. Besides her parents, Connie was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Barbara Tomecko, her brother, Henry Risley Dimock, her nieces, Coramae Belanger and Constance Leona Tomecko, her brother-in-law, George William Tomecko, Sr. and an infant great nephew, Timothy Arthur Tomecko. She is now also reunited with her constant and dearest friend and companion in life, James Lindstrom. Connie leaves behind to cherish her memory, her nieces and nephews, Patricia Lee (Edwin) Gembala of Hawthorn Woods, Illinois; George William (the late Johanna) Tomecko, Jr. of Storrs, Ct; Bonnie (Peter) Buck of Ashford, Ct.; Beth (James) Wilcox of Mansfield Center, Ct.; Risley (Jessica) Dimock of Windham Center, Ct. and nephew-in-law, Michael Belanger of Manchester, Ct. Also, surviving her are her sister-in-law, Virginia Duncan Dimock, 17 great nieces and nephews, 21 great-great nieces and nephews, and her dedicated and loyal neighbor, Brian Rapillo. The family would like to thank her caregiver, Sandria Murray, for her friendship, compassionate support, and loving care during Connie's final years. Visitation will be held on October 19 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Potter's Funeral Home, Willimantic, Connecticut. The memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Chapel in Storrs, Ct., with interment after the service at the Dimock family plot in Storrs Cemetery.
