Dana P. Hendershott
Dana Hendershott, age 75 of Milford, died peacefully after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was the beloved husband of Anne Hendershott, as well as a devoted father, grandfather, uncle and faithful friend to so many.
Dana was born on October 24, 1949, in Middletown, New York, the son of the late Henry and Katherine Hendershott. A graduate of Santa Cruz High School, Dana graduated from the University of San Francisco where he was a pitcher for the USF Dons and was a USF All-Time leader in wins, ERA, innings pitched, complete games, appearances, and strike-outs. As a sophomore at USF in 1969 he posted a single season record of 1.67 ERA in 21 games. In 1971 he earned an All-American selection, First-Team All-Conference, All-District Honors, and the Green and Gold Loyalty Award. In 1983, Dana was inducted into the USF Hall of Fame, and in 2005, USF named Dana a "Legend of the Hilltop." Most of Dana's baseball records still stand at USF.
After graduation, Dana signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers and played for several years in their Minor League system. It was during his baseball years that he met Anne, his wife of 50 years.
A dedicated employee in the insurance industry, Dana treasured the friends he made throughout his baseball and corporate career and continued to be grateful for their kindness and support.
Committed to service, Dana volunteered much of his time for various charities-including the Human Life Review where he served as a member of the Board. Because of Dana and Anne's service to the Catholic Church, they were selected by the Hartford Archbishop to become a Dame and Knight of the Holy Sepulcher at a ceremony held at St. Patrick's Cathedral.
Dana leaves behind his beloved wife Anne and children Heidi and Jonathan and their spouses Kostas and Neena. He also leaves his adored grandchildren Luke, Henry and Hudson, as well as a number of cherished nieces, and nephews. One of the kindest and gentlest men most of us have ever known, Dana leaves a long legacy of love and friendship. He never once complained about the limitations his Parkinson's Disease imposed even though it limited his mobility and took away his ability to do the things he had so enjoyed-including golf. His family will always be grateful to those treasured friends from baseball and his corporate years who often traveled long distances-some from the West Coast-to visit him throughout the difficult years of his illness when he could no longer travel to visit with them.
