Daniel M. "Dezso" Grega

Daniel Grega Obituary

GREGA Daniel (Dezso) M. Grega, age 87, beloved husband of Marie Lesko Grega, and longtime resident of Fairfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 28, 2005, at St.Vincent's Medical Center. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Dezso and Erzsika Szomoray Grega. Raised in Bridgeport, he graduated from Bassick High School in1936, and continued his education at Purdue University and Saint Bonaventure College. Prior to a fulfilling career and retirement from Avco Lycoming, Dan had been employed by Jenkins Valves and Bullards Company. A faithful parishioner of St.Emery's Church, he was a former member of the Holy Names Society, and a Knight of Columbus with the Father Coleman Council. A very mechanically inclined individual, and skilled wood craftsman, Dan took great pride in having built his family's home. Whether building, gardening, or upholstering furniture, he was truly at ease, and found satisfaction in working with his hands. To the benefit and delight of his family, friends, and neighbors, he often shared his time and talents where needed. Touring the country by car, sailing, backyard picnics, or visits to the Lourdes Shrine in Ridgefield were all enjoyable ways for Dan to spend time with his family and friends. In addition to his devoted wife of 63 years, his memories will be cherished by his children, Marie Grega Folchick, and her husband, Robert, of Trumbull, Christine Grega Daigle, and her husband, Andrew, of Fairfield; grandchildren, James Folchick, and his wife, Gina, of Trumbull, Thomas Grant, and his wife, Denise, of Stamford, Kathryn DeGruttolo, and her husband, Angelo, of Trumbull, Andrew Daigle, III, and his wife, Elska, of Solvang, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Megan and Daniel Folchick, Kaia, Isabel, and Andrew IV Daigle, as well as two additional joyfully expected Grant and DeGruttolo great grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Csontos, of the Black Rock section of Bridgeport; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Lesko, of Seattle, Wash., Sara Lesko, of North Fort Meyers, Fla.; his goddaughter, Marian (Manci) Straubel; several nieces and nephews. Dan was predeceased by two children, Daniel James Grega and Marie Bernadette Grega, one sister, Marian Straubel. Calling hours are on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. DIRECTLY in St. Emery's Church. Interment will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery. Dear Aunt Marie, Marie and Bob, Christine and Andy, and families

We were so shocked and saddened when we heard about the passing of Uncle Dan.

How grateful we were to have been able to spend the time with Uncle Dan in the hospital while he was there.

While I was with my mother, Danny would go up to see Uncle Dan and they would spend some time together talking about cleaning the yard and mulching leaves and the old days. Danny said he was so glad to have been able to spend the time together.

We feel so terrible that we weren't able to be there with the family. If we didn't have the responsibility of watching our two grand children, we certainly would have come home.

We think of him every day, epecially how feisty he was. We can't believe he's gone.

Out thoughts and prayers are with you every day. We love you all.

Love,

Margie and Danny
