Daniel Simonetti Obituary

SIMONETTI Daniel Simonetti, age 78 of Shelton, entered into rest Tuesday, April 15, 2008 in his winter home in Scottsdale, Ariz., where he was vacationing with his fianc, Marie Petti. He was the devoted husband of 50 years of the late Anne Russo Simonetti. Dan was born in Shelton, February 24, 1930, son of the late Antonio and Elizabeth (Cavallaro) Simonetti and was a lifelong Shelton resident. Dan served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army. Along with his family, he was the owner and operator of Simonetti's Cleaners for more than 50 years up until his retirement eight years ago. He was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Highland Golf Club. Dan also enjoyed Baccarat and he loved ringing in the New Year in Vegas. He was also an avid supporter of Shelton sports, especially Shelton High School Football, where he had played under Coach Ed Finn. He could be seen walking the sidelines for more than 40 years encouraging his Gaels. In the 70s, Dan was director on the Executive Committee and the Executive Loan Committee for the former Valley Bank and Trust. He belonged to the Neighborhood Cleaners Association, was a corporator of the Lower Naugatuck Valley Boys and Girls Club, and was a member of the American Legion Sutter-Terlizzi Post 16 in Shelton for 50 years. He was a former member of the Derby-Shelton Rotary Club. But most of all, Dan loved to cook for his family and friends. He made many friends and brought smiles and cheers for his homemade breads and pastas. He was the brother of Gaeton (Tom) Simonetti and his wife, Elizabeth of Woodbridge and the late John Simonetti and his late wife, Mary. He also leaves 76 nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and many cherished friends. Friends may greet the family Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton. On Monday, his funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Shelton. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. At the request of the family, memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers, if desired to the Lower Naugatuck Valley Boys and Girls Club, 1 Positive Place, Shelton, CT 06484, or to St. Joseph's Church, 50 Fairmont Place Shelton, CT 06484.
