David Vogel Obituary

David William Vogel
David William Vogel passed away unexpectedly at his family home in Washington, Maine on April 9th, 2025.
David was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on May 28th, 1963, to Dorothy and Donald Vogel Sr. He was the beloved younger brother of Donald Jr., Lynn, and Suzanne. From the moment he was born, Suzanne deemed him "her baby" and she remained his biggest supporter and closest confidant till his untimely death.
David spent most of his life in Fairfield and Trumbull, Connecticut, retiring to his family's cabin on Washington Pond this past spring.
After graduating summa cum laude from Sacred Heart University with a B.S. in legal administration, David worked as a paralegal and proofreader. His expertise was valued by his employers, which included Citizens Utilities, Tudor Investments, Franklin Templeton, and Equinor.
In 1995, David married Faith Bader and together they raised their daughter, Audrey. Although divorced, David and Faith remained close friends, sharing a love for singing and classical musical. Of his myriad achievements, David took the most pride in his daughter. Never has there been a more loving and devoted father. He was more than a father; he was her best friend.
David was a remarkably sentimental man. He loved all creatures, even using humane traps to catch the squirrels in his attic and researching the best parks in which to release them. He was contemplative and profoundly intelligent, often surprising even those who knew him best with his level of knowledge. He studied quantum physics in his free time, taught himself German, studied abroad in France, and loved both fiction and nonfiction literature.
Music was David's greatest passion. In his youth, David was an esteemed boy soprano and toured Europe with his choir. As an adult, numerous Connecticut choirs were blessed with his voice. He was the tenor soloist at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Wilton for many years. Most recently, David sang with the Stamford Chorale alongside his daughter and son-in-law.
David will be remembered as a wise, honest, and humble man. While his esoterically dry sense of humor will be missed greatly by a select few, his kindness, sincerity, and warm heart will be missed by all who knew him. The world is a poorer place in his absence.
David was predeceased by his grandparents and his parents.
David is survived by his daughter, Audrey Vogel, his son-in-law Graham Cook, his three siblings, Donald Jr., Suzanne Carey, and Lynn Vogel, his nephew Shaun Carey and his cat Kimmie.

A minute doesn't go by that I don't miss your presence. You left far to soon. I hope you know how loved. you are and how grateful I am that I was able to share the last 9 months with you here in Maine. I love you ..now and always.

I have such fond memories of singing with David at St. Matthew´s Episcopal Church in Wilton. Those were special years, and David´s presence in the choir was always a gift-his voice, his musicianship, and most of all, his kindness. I remember how proud he was of Audrey when she was just a little girl. Whenever she joined him at church, he absolutely beamed. Though we lost touch over the years, I always valued our friendship. David was a truly kind and gentle soul, and I´m grateful to have known him.

I hardly ever pop on the obits but was sorry today to read of David's passing, though glad to hear of the wonderful life he had. David and I met in elementary school, and I still remember his lead role in "Amahl and the Night Visitors" in Bridgeport, when I think were were in 6th grade and our class went to see him perform. Another memorable moment was during Fairfield's Memorial Day parade our senior year of high school, when I was the back-up to sing The Star-Spangled Banner at Town Hall Green. When David was running late, I told the school band to play loudly if I had to sing -- LOL -- but David arrived just in time! I was never so happy to see him! I hope memories such as these (and the attached photo of our 6th-grade class) bring comfort to his family.

I am so sorry to read about David's passing. We worked together at Citizens Utilities back in the day, and I vividly recall the skinniest man I had ever seen coming into my office to ask about corporate support for a chorale group in Fairfield. He was a passionate performer and supporter. I was in charge of the company's donation purse strings at the time, so I half-jokingly said, "If you want money, you'll have to sing for me." And he DID! What a voice - people came from other offices to applaud him (and to find out why Nessun Dorma was being heard throughout the floor) and the company donated $1,000 to the chorale. THEN I heard Faith sing and she was amazing! So Audrey has great genes and I am sure David is not just humming but belting out in song every time his beloved daughter sings. And I am relieved that he did gain some weight as the years went by. He was a lovely man. My condolences.
