Delphine P. Chmielewski

CHMIELEWSKI Delphine P. Chmielewski, age 81 of Bridgeport, died peacefully on January 11, 2011 at her residence with her family at her side. Born in a coal mining town of Yatesboro, Pa. on December 10, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Andrew P. Platko and Helen A. (Gulish) Platko. While her children were little, Delphine was a stay at home mom. She worked for DM Reads Co. and retired from Steinbachs Benefit Department. She loved polka dancing with Ted, bowling, watching NFL football and going to her grandson's baseball games from "T" ball on up to the Babe Ruth League. She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore J. Chmielewski and her brother, John J. Platko of Ford City, Pa.; sisters, Marie Giroux of Eustis, Fla., Dolores Kolendo of Tavares, Fla., Alice S. Posh of Bridgeport, Margaret (Polly) Shellhammer of Home, Pa. Survivors include her daughter, Colleen D. Wood and husband, Eric C. (Woody) of Bridgeport; her son, Theodore F. Chmielewski and wife, Shari B. of Shelton; much loved sister, Isabel P. Herb of Woodbridge; two grandchildren, Amanda L. Chmielewski and Dustin J. Chmielewski of Shelton; her grand-doggie, Sadie Hawkins-Woods; plus a host of nieces and nephews. Her children wish to thank Sara, Sue and Polly from the VNA of Connecticut and Barbara from Hospice at Home, you are all angels. Also thanks to St. Vincents Medical Center ER Department, the nurses and staff of 9N and ICU nurse, Nicole for taking great care of our mom. At her request there will be no calling hours. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael the Archangel Church on Monday, January 17, 2011 at 10 a.m. with burial following in Mt. Grove Cemetery, Easton. The Commerce Hill-Radozycki Funeral Home, 4798 Main Street, Bridgeport (on the Trumbull line). is in charge of arrangements.
