Douglas was my "Ancestry" friend, and I am so very sad tonight to find that he passed away. I have a Bohn great-great-grandmother, and he helped place her into the tree with her brothers and sisters. Douglas certainly had a multitude of family who welcomed him to his heavenly home, but his earthly family feels a tremendous loss. I offer my heartfelt condolences and prayers that God will continue to comfort you.

November 15, 2012

It is with sadness that I share with you the passing of Doug Bohn on Friday. Doug was one of Sacred Heart University's original employees and he spent his entire career here. He began in 1964 as a mathematics professor and ended his 45 years with the University as assistant vice president of Academic Affairs and University registrar. Over the years the University honored him by naming the “Doug Bohn Unsung Hero Award” after him and by bestowing on him an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters.

Sorry for your loss, Carole , may God bless and keep you and the Family.

I worked for Mr. Bohn (always called him Mr., never Doug)in the Registrar's Office as a student from 1970 to 1972, and as his assistant from 1972 until 1978. We always used to call him "Mr. Memory" - he had the uncanny ability to remember all the students and their individual situations. He was a lovely man to work for. I learned a great deal from him - he was my first boss - and I have many fond memories. Rest in Peace, Mr. Bohn.

Hi Carole and Family,
My mother Virginia Croffy, myself, Gail Croffy Griffiths, and my husband, William Griffiths III all send our condolences. Bill and I are graduates of SHU. I know you remember us all. We are so sorry that we were unable to come to Doug's funeral. We are so far away down here in Florida and my mother Virginia is not well. I'll bet Doug was welcomed in heaven by one of his great friends, John Croffy Sr., who died almost 10 years ago. Our prayers are with you all.

I met Doug on the day of my interview for a faculty position at SHU. From that day in 1966, until the time of our retirements some four decades later, we had a great working relationship. He was a gentle, caring and thoroughly professional colleague and friend. SHU is better because of his pioneering work and dedication. I will miss him. Rest in peace.

I have been so blessed to be connected to the Bohn family my whole life. Such a large part of my wonderful childhood and teen years are a result of my second family. Nearly 7 days a week for over 20 years and Mr. Bohn showed me nothing but the same kindness and patience he showed his own daughter. Never a foul word, never a "go home kid." I was always embraced with love and a smile. Thank you Mr. Bohn, for being a true, great father. Thank you for giving me my first "job" when you paid us out of your own pocket, thank you for every ride, every dollar, every meal, every lesson in the night sky and every ounce of patience you ever had with two crazy girls...one of which wasn't even yours! There is a reason you were so loved and so respected. You were the real thing. I will always keep you in my heart, Dougie Fresh.

Nothing but love to the entire Bohn Family. Always!

To the Family,
Doug was a very nice person. When he came to campus he always made his way over to say, hello. I'm going to miss his smile. R.I.P.

Dear Carol & Family, I was so surprised to read of Doug's passing in the paper yesterday. I just saw him recently at a SHARP meeting and he looked fine.

My sincere sympathy at this time. Doug was always a tremendous help to me and my Department during the many years when we were servicing over 300 students. (The Department of Office Administration). I was at SHU for 38 years and we had many conversations. Such a fine, compassionate, and caring man. May God be with you at this time

I first encountered Doug as a S.H.U. student in 1967 -- he was a Stand-Out Math teacher -- for those of us who benefited from the great gift of clarity in math instruction, he provided it in spades! I talked with him at Bunny's memorial service last summer - he was as sweet and kind as ever -- I will always remember him with great fondness and respect.

I returned to Connecticut after being in the Navy and Mr Bohn welcomed me to SHU, helped me register and was kind and gentle. A true lover of education and a pillar at Sacred Heart. He led a nice life and hepmed many, many students at SHU. Thanks, Mr. Bohn

Claudette Gibilaro Pilotti

October 21, 2012

Our deepest condolences to all who were touched by the gentle warmth, compassion, humor and sincerity of such a wonderful person. As both a work-study student in his busy registrar's office and as a Math major, Dr. Bohn was one of my mentors. He had the faith in my abilities to write the entire exam schedule for SHU students from 1968-1970 in the early days when computer programming was complex. He encouraged another student and I to be the first to complete all of our courses by the fall of our fourth year, so that we could student teach in Math on the secondary level in the spring. Dr. Bohn is the unsung hero for whom the angels now sing his praises. In peace and comfort, Claudette Gibilaro Pilotti '70 and Tony Pilotti '67.
