Edward Groth Obituary

Edward J. Groth Jr.
Edward passed away peacefully on February 2nd, 2025, surrounded by the comfort and care of his devoted wife of 38 years Juliann (Paulette) Groth and their children, after an acute illness.
Born in Derby, CT, Edward grew up in Shelton, Connecticut, where he attended Shelton High School. His passions were diverse and fulfilling: a love for baseball, a fascination with cars, and a deep affection for animals. In his youth, he played baseball for Shelton, worked as a veterinary assistant caring for small animals and horses, and honed his skills as an autobody technician.
At the age of 18, Ed enlisted in the Army, embarking on a distinguished 12-year career. He specialized in radar, electronics, and computers, serving his country honorably. Following his military service, Edward transitioned into the corporate world, eventually retiring from General Electric after 20 years as an IT Project Manager. Known for his strong work ethic, he consistently gave 110% to his endeavors.
His passions were many and spoke to his wide-ranging curiosity. A lifelong and devoted fan of the New York Yankees, he cherished his time playing both baseball and softball during his service.
His love of automobiles remained a constant throughout his life, from the work he did in his youth, to the countless magazines and articles he consumed, able to name just about any make and model you could think of, with details to spare.
He possessed an insatiable thirst for historical knowledge, and a general love for how things functioned, always eager to learn and understand. His family fondly remembers his role as their resident expert, often saying, "Ask Grandpa, he'll know."
In his later years, he found joy in the warmth of Florida's weather, embracing his retirement and leaving behind the cold Connecticut winters. A devoted family man, Edward took immense pride in his loved ones. Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose unwavering dedication to his family knew no bounds. He would go to the ends of the earth to help those he loved.
His legacy lives on through his three children: Laurie Cody of South Carolina, Edward Groth III and his wife Michelle of Shelton, CT, and Michael Groth of Milford, CT. He was a cherished grandfather to Shelby, Jonathan, Jeffrey, Mikayla, Eddie IV, Dylan, and Alyssa, and a proud great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren.
Edward's beloved cousins and friends will remember his wonderful sense of humor and deep love for family and friendship.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Sr. and Chiria, his brother Alan, and several beloved aunts and uncles.
