Elizabeth Balek

BALEK Elizabeth (Betty) Balek, age 92, devoted wife of the late Francis (Fritz) Balek, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2011. Born and raised in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Jenyo Sanislo, and had been a resident of Fairfield for 60 years. Betty's memory will be embraced by her family including her son, Thomas Balek, and his wife, Pamela, of Watertown; her cherished grandson, Greg Balek, and his wife, Stephanie, of Southington; one sister-in-law, Irenen Sanislo, of Stratford; several nieces and nephews including locally, Maureen Laska, and her husband, Edward, and Ethel Keri, all of Fairfield; She was predeceased by her siblings, Joseph, Andrew, James, and Mary. A Devout Catholic and former member of St. Emery's Church, she had been a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Assumption. She enjoyed playing pinochle with her friends at the St. Emery's Senior, and followed horse racing with annual visits and occasional wagers while at Saratoga Springs. She was proud of her home, and maintained it and the landscaping herself into her early 80's. Betty loved spending time with her neighbors, whom she thought of as dear friends. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 430 to 730pm in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. Funeral services will take place on Friday 1015am in the funeral home, and 11am in Assumption Church. Her interment in Oak Lawn Cemetery will be private.
