Eugene Harkins Obituary
Eugene Michael Harkins, age 88, of Shelton, beloved husband of the late Patricia Ann Harkins, passed away on April 9, 2020 at Bridgeport Hospital. Gene was born in South Amboy, New Jersey on July 9, 1931 to the late James and Helen Harkins and had been a lifelong area resident. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War as a Seabee. After many years in the banking industry, Gene founded Harkins Appraisal Service in 1986 where he worked until he retired. Survivors include his devoted children, Eileen Doolin and her husband Len of Southbury, Mike Harkins and his wife Donna of Shelton, John Harkins of Stratford, Kevin Harkins of Shelton, his grandchildren, Tricia Doolin, Kyle Doolin, Mary Doolin, Caitlin Loesch, Meaghan Donegan, Erin Harkins, Molly Harkins, Tess Harkins and 3 great-grandchildren. Gene's family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Wesley Heights, Shelton for providing excellent care over the past several years – they treated him like family. Due to the due to the pandemic and restrictions on public gatherings, the family has elected to hold a private service. The Adzima Funeral Home has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. I just received word of Gene's passing and want the family to know that I always enjoyed meeting with dad in the town halls or your office over the years when I had my appraisal business. I cant thank you all enough for your help in those early years in the early 90's when I was learning the ropes of the biz. The camaraderie with you guys made this passing of your dad especially hard too hear and my prayers go out to the whole Harkin clan during this time. God bless you and my condolence. Dear Eileen, Mike, John and Kevin. Your Dad has now joined Mom in a better place we call Heaven. No more bad days just great days with Jesus and their family. You had Dad for 88 years which was a blessing to you and his many friends. We loved your Mom and Dad ever since becoming neighbors on Goldbach Drive so many years ago (1964).We spoke to Dad not to long ago finding out he had to move to Shelton for his care. Dear Eileen, Mike, Kevin and John:
We were saddened to learn of Uncle Gene passing. While we have not seen him since my dad had passed I still can remember Gene like he was next to me. He always made us laugh and I personally found comfort in discussing life issues with him. Hard to believe the four brothers are now gone.

We were saddened to learn of Gene's passing. He was a good Man, Dad, Granddad and Friend. We enjoyed our relationship with him, especially at the parties in the smoking lounge at your house. God bless you all during this very difficult time.

John, Kevin, and the entire Harkins family. Please accept my deepest sympathy on the passing of your father. What a fine individual he was, salt of the earth, a true gentleman. I enjoyed our many chats in the Bridgeport Town Clerk's and Assessor's offices. He was a proud family man, a solid businessman, and had a a wonderful sense of humor. I will miss him.
