Florence Chicos Obituary

Florence Roslyn Hiller Chicos
CHICOS – Florence Roslyn Hiller Chicos, 98, passed away on Friday, December 27 at Bridgeport Hospital, just three days shy of her 99th birthday. Born in Bridgeport, Florence was a Fairfield resident for 85 years and built her family there with her late husband George. She had also lived at Carriage Green of Milford, where she was the Treasurer of the Resident Council for eight years. Florence loved her community, and along with professional positions, she also held quite a few volunteer positions. She worked as a proofreader and in accounting for the Famous Artists School in Westport for 16 years and for Bonney Electric in Fairfield for 10 years. Florence worked the voting polls for over 35 years at Oldfield School in Fairfield and was President of the Fairfield Senior Center and the AARP chapter 2180. As a devoted parishioner to St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fairfield, she was the President of the St. Anthony Seniors for over 15 years and a member of the St. Anthony Ladies Guild. Florence was an avid crafter and especially enjoyed knitting, quilting, sewing and painting. She was featured in the CT Post for having knitted 43 red hats for babies, which were donated to the American Heart Association in Massachusetts. She had taught many of the seniors at Carriage Green how to knit to assist her with this project. Florence is survived by her two sons, George F. Chicos and his wife Linda of Prospect and Wilson (Bill) F. Chicos and his wife Kathryn of Milford; grandchildren Brian Chicos and his wife Ginger, Seth Chicos and his wife Liz, Katelyn Chicos, Brian O'Rourke, Patrick O'Rourke and his wife Brittney, and Kevin Murphy and his wife Renee, along with eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband George, Florence was predeceased by her two brothers John and Wilson, and four sisters Alice, Mary, Eve and Dorothy. Friends may call from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 4 at the FAIRFIELD FUNERAL HOME OF EDMUND W. DOUGIELLO, 36 South Pine Creek Rd., Fairfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 149 South Pine Creek Rd., Fairfield. Interment will immediately follow at St. Thomas Cemetery on Mill Plain Rd. in Fairfield.
