Gina Domizio Obituary

Gina Domizio
Gina (Volpe) Domizio passed away peacefully at Lutheran Nursing Home, Southbury, on February 8th with family members by her side. She was 103. Gina was born on January 27, 1919 in Cecil, PA, delivered by her father. At age 18 months her family returned to their hometown, Introdacqua, Abruzzo, Italy, where she was raised, fourth of 11 children. Shortly after her marriage at age 17 to Lilio Colangelo, she sailed back to America, settling in Bridgeport and began working in various industrial factories and eventually becoming a seamstress at Dress shops. During her working years, she welcomed three children. Following her divorce, she married George Domizio in 1954 and welcomed two more children.
Gina was a warm, friendly, witty, and generous person to all who crossed her path. Gina took great pride in cooking and entertaining family and friends. From the early 80s until 2019, she spent six months at her condo in Delray Beach, FL. She loved to go ballroom dancing, watch her CBS soap operas, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Her friendships go back into the 1940s. Many of her tenants from her third-floor apartment on Capitol Avenue are still her friends today. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Surviving her are her five children, Natalina Colangelo (Domenico Volpe), Gina Colangelo, Lilio Colangelo, George Domizio and Elisa "Lisa" (Salvatore Cerulli).
In additional to her five children, she is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, one sister, Maria Volpe (Faiella) of Introdacqua, one brother, Paolo Volpe, Bridgeport one sister-in-law, Anna Barker, Vero Beach, FL and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents Tommaso Volpe and Elisa Finocchi, siblings Filomena Volpe, Lilia Susi, Paolo Volpe I, Gilda DiBerardino, Consiglia Barberia, Tommaso Volpe, Maria Volpe I, Liugi Volpe. One granddaughter, Kaycee Hayes Domizio, one great-granddaughter Jessie Faith Ellis. And special companion George Korschen, whom she met during her years spent in Delray Beach.
The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and CNAs at Lutheran Nursing Home for their compassion and caring these last two years. And a special thanks to Judi Wisniewski for faithfully preparing Gina's Delray Beach condo for her arrival each October
Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in the Parente-Lauro Funeral Home, 559 Washington Ave., Bridgeport, followed by a Service at 11:30 a.m. with Fr.
