I was feeling nostalgic with the recent loss of Michael Nesmith, when a friend ( now both retired RNs' ) shared the loss of Dr. Sandberg with me today. My best memories were when he allowed us to chose the " closing music" - I like to think that he appreciated ZZ Top, Dire Straits, & Michael Jackson in the early 80's in Room 2 after a good day. He chose the classics for the main part of the procedure, but then revealed his " let down your hair side " on most afternoons. Always the consummate professional, I am feeling the loss today. Great memories of a great team - Sal, Chuck, Harvey, Danny, Iris, Berrit, Lisa, & Herman. Enjoy your glog this Christmas in Heaven doc

Dear Rita and Boys,
We so deeply saddened to hear of Bud´s passing. He truly embodied the finest qualities of the medical profession and did so much to relieve so many of the suffering of cardiovascular disease. He was also a great family man and could truly enjoy himself with family and friends. We have so many wonderful memories of skiing at Okemo or sailing in Newport. He and Rita will be forever remember as always being the best dance couple at any event. May Bud Rest In Peace and the perpetual light shine upon.
Love Jean and Bob

Dear Rita and Boys,
I was so saddened to learn of Bud's passing. He was truly a brilliant, gifted, and caring physician and surgeon. He personified the very best that medicine can offer. He made all of us who had the privilege to work along side him, try harder, care more, and be better. We will not soon see his kind again. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Godspeed.

Dear Rita and family
We are so sad to hear of the passing of a truly gifted cardiac surgeon, mentor , father ,and friend. Generous
and compassionate to a fault, he always put the care of his patients, and others first , and drove us all to strive for perfection every day. His talent and skill in the O.R. was unmatched, and his generosity to our family will never be forgotten.
Our prayers are with you and your family.

1980, Bud took a chance on a (Canadian) Perfusionist, at the Cleveland Clinic, to start the Heart Program at Bridgeport Hospital. We worked together for 20 years.
Bud was my Best Man at mine & Laurie's Wedding.
He ended his toast with his favorite saying: ..."Hot Damn!"
I'm flooded with so many wonderful memories!
Bud was an excellent surgeon and a wonderful friend.
Laurie and I are sending our love and our deepest sympathies to Rita and the family.

To Rita and the Family
I am really so sad. It was just this morning that we mentioned Bud at our Group meeting, which now has 20 cardiologists. We commented that our Group owes a tremendous debt to him. We hitched our wagon to Bud because he represented "the very best". He was the best cardiac surgeon in the state and probably the best cardiologist. He truly was a"brilliant cardiac surgeon" and we wanted to be as good and he and Chuck. And I still follow so many of his patients- we say a Sandberg graft never fails- always patent. His patients still talk of him with such adoration
And a good friend. I have such fond memories of sharing our ski condo, our kids growing up with Karl and Paul and occasional visits from Eric.
We know he has not been well but we are still so very sorry.
