Harriette Hirsch Obituary

Harriette (Halper) Hirsch
Harriette Edith Halper Hirsch, 84, of Fairfield, passed away on July 14, 2017. Harriette was born in Bridgeport to the late Bessie Halper and Alexander Halper in 1933. She went to Bassick High School and graduated from the University of Connecticut. Upon graduating she worked at Macy's in the executive training program.
Harriette was the Assistant Head Librarian at the Fairfield Woods Branch Library in Fairfield for 25 years. She was an avid reader and always wanted to learn. Until recently, she took many literature and history courses at Fairfield University. She was an active member of the Bassick High School, Class of '51 reunion committee. On many afternoons, she could be found reading or doing crossword puzzles at the beach. She was an enthusiastic fan of the UConn Women's Basketball team.
Harriette was predeceased by her husband, Ivan Hirsch, and her sister, Evelyn Blum of Delray Beach, FL. She is survived by her children, Amy Schneider (Bruce) of Westport, Eric Lytton-Hirsch (Jennifer) of Staten Island, NY, and John Hirsch (Jennifer) of Hales Corners, WI; her grandchildren, Mike Schneider, Ruby Lytton-Hirsch, Natalie Hirsch, and Ethan Bing; her nephew, Ben Blum (Maureen Kimball) of Concord, MA, and niece Cheryl Blum of Huntington Station, NY, and many cousins and longtime friends.
Services will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. from the Abraham L. Green & Son Funeral Home on 88 Beach Road in Fairfield, with interment following at Adath Yeshuren Cemetery, 250 Reid Street, Fairfield. Donations in her memory may be made to her favorite organizations, the US Holocaust Museum (www.ushmm.org) or The Museum of Jewish Heritage (www.mjhnyc.org).
