Helen Barnum Obituary

Helen K. Barnum
Helen K. Barnum, age 95, of Fairfield, beloved wife and best friend of the late Robert L. Barnum, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. Born in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late Geza and Helen (Pal) Kopazs, she had been a Fairfield resident since marrying Bob in 1950. Helen was a long-time active member of First Church Congregational in Fairfield where she was a member of the Women's Fellowship and loved singing in the choir. Helen was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of American Legion Post 74. She and Bob loved to travel, especially their summer trips to Vermont. She loved going to Jennings Beach to watch Bob take his regular swims, and always looked forward to spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought such joy to her later in life. She enjoyed her rides with her sons to Aspetuck Orchards and Hemlock and Saugatuck Reservoirs. Thanksgiving was the best with her legendary apple and pumpkin pies! No one will be able to top her homemade whipped cream! A coupon cutter extraordinaire, Helen would generously send coupons to her family and friends including delivering them even to her doctor's offices. Our "Tiny Grandma" will be sadly missed by her three beloved sons, Robert T. Barnum and his wife Pamela of Milford, Thomas R. Barnum and his wife Nancy of Peletier, NC and Peter T. Barnum and his wife Maria of Deep River; nine loving grandchildren and eight cherished great-grandchildren. A memorial service celebrating Helen's life will be held Sunday, August 11, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at First Church Congregational, Fairfield. The family extends deep appreciation to the wonderful caregivers from Emerest Home Care. In lieu of flowers, friends may consider a donation in Helen's memory to First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road, Fairfield, CT 06824.

I loved Helen´s knowledge of family history. I am married to Richard Barnum, Helen´s nephew. When I first met Helen at a family wedding she filled me in with the Barnum history. She sent me some photos and detailed genealogy. She was so interesting to talk to. Condolences to the whole family. She will be missed
