Joe Krivak Obituary

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Joe Krivak, Maryland's football coach from 1987-91, has died. He was 77.

The school said he died Tuesday night.

Krivak was quarterbacks coach for Bobby Ross in the 1980s, working with Boomer Esiason, Frank Reich and Stan Gelbaugh. After Ross left for Georgia Tech after the 1986 season, Krivak was promoted to head coach.

Maryland went 20-34-2 under Krivak, who resigned after the 1991 season.

His best year at Maryland was in 1990, when the Terrapins went 6-5-1 and tied Louisiana Tech in the Independence Bowl. Maryland went 2-9 in 1991, and Mark Duffner took over as coach.

Current Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson says of Krivak: "He tutored some of the most prolific quarterbacks to play in College Park and helped develop them for future success in the NFL."

Krivak Family "Cousins" - So sorry to hear about Joe passing away. Up until about three years ago, Kathleen and I exchanged Christmas cards and talked on the phone, so she kept me up on Krivak happenings. I have good memories of the many happy summers spent in Central City with Aunt Helen, Uncle John, Joe, Kathleen, Tom and Ginny. By today's statistics, seventy-seven is considered "young". He certainly led a productive life! May he rest in peace!
