John Johnson Obituary

John A. Johnson, Jr.
May 26, 1946 - January 17, 2025
On the afternoon of January 17 2025 John, 83, was called home by Jesus his Lord and Savior. John's wife, his son and the two pastors from his church (Crossroads) were by his side sharing his last moments. John was born in Bridgeport to the late John and Mary (Hultgren) Johnson. After his early years in Bridgeport, John's family moved to Trumbull, where he still resided upon his passing. Today, May 26th he is celebrating his first birthday in Heaven.
Happy Birthday, Pop. We Love You.
John was a 1960 graduate of Bassick High School, and upon completion, he learned the trade of mold and die making, which he continued until his retirement in 2005. During this time, John served in the US Army as a medic. Ready to go wherever they sent him, he was mostly stationed in Germany and Fort Riley, Kansas.
He is survived by his loving wife and caretaker, Gail Schonagel Johnson, whom he met in the 1960's both being members of St Mark's Lutheran Church. She chased him until he caught her and on February 21, 1970 they were married. John was the dad of John III, Karl, Laurie and Wendy Stanley (Fred) and seven much loved grandchildren, Seth, Sam, Avery, Jack, Andrew, Katie and Ethan. John is also survived by his brother Kenneth (Ellen) and sister Greta (Vinny) and many nieces and nephews. John was a simple kind of guy who mostly enjoyed being with his grandkids, fishing, stamp collecting and being outside riding his lawn mower. There are no plans for services at this time. We ask that you remember John with prayers and fond thoughts.
If you would like to make a donation in his memory, please consider West Haven Veterans Hospital who provided him with the best care John could have ever received.

Memories of Uncle John-
Building his family a home from the ground up, showcasing all of the newest 1970s features.

Creating wild and winding snow trails for thrilling woodsy night time sledding.

Listening to loon. Stealthily spotting moose and bear and eagle. Catching, cooking & eating crawfish.

A talented splinter remover, giver of first aid, and handy fixer of just about everything.

To the beautiful Johnson family...
So many memories with all of you at Jane Ryan School. Always supportive and caring parents. Whether it was wall murals or the haunted house you were there for us. John will be greatly missed by family and friends.
