John Sinanis Obituary

Sinanis, John J.
John J. Sinanis, age 92, of Trumbull, beloved husband of 67 years of Irene (Lesko) Sinanis, died peacefully on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford after a brief battle with liver cancer.
John was born in Bridgeport to the late Dimitri and Christine Sinanis. He proudly volunteered his service during World War II with the US Navy. John always felt blessed that during his stint serving his country he was able to see the world, visiting places such as Ireland, Cuba and Gibraltar. Upon completion of his military service, he went on to college and was a member of the first graduating class of Fairfield University in 1951. John began a long career as a public accountant and retired from the US Department of Defense Audit Department. He then became a self-employed public accountant.
John enjoyed traveling with his wife, especially the many road trips to their homes in Delray Beach, Florida and Westerly, Rhode Island. He was a life member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 1250 and later, the Lt. Raymond J. Bowers Post 1466. John was a devoted and active member of the former St. John Nepomucene Church and most recently, Holy Name of Jesus Church. He held the position of treasurer of the Slovak Catholic Sokol, Group 2 for many years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two beloved children, Judy Nist and her husband, Bob, of Rhode Island and Jay Sinanis of Trumbull; two loving granddaughters, Sarah Nist of California and Stephanie Nist of Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Denise Sinanis; one brother, Paul Sinanis; and one sister, Ann Reilly.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at 9:45 am at the funeral home and at 10:30 am at Holy Name of Jesus Church with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military honors will follow at St. John Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 pm. Please visit www.pisteyfuneralhome.com to leave condolences.

Saddened to learn of the death of John. He left us so quickly we hardly had time to say Goodbye, rest well in heaven. I so enjoyed John's company and conversations. A very happy man. Love and prayers.
