Joseph Riggi Obituary

RIGGI Mr. Joseph Riggi Sr., age 74 of Shorefront, Milford, previously of Waterbury, died Wednesday evening, July 6, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Anita (Esposito) Riggi. Joe was born in Linden, N.J. on August 13, 1936, son of the late Vincent and Concetta (Bono) Riggi. He came to Waterbury in 1942 and moved to Milford in 1982. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, where he was involved with the Nike Missile Program. He was the owner and operator of the Tire Shak, Inc. in Ansonia for 25 years, until retiring in 1986. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and playing cards with his friends. His passion was his heirloom woodworking projects, especially the cradles he created for each of his grandchildren. But his greatest joys were his children and grandchildren and the many Sunday dinners they spent together at the beach. Besides his wife of 53 years, he leaves his children, Joseph Riggi Jr. and his wife, Jean (Lozier) Riggi of Prospect, Vincent Riggi and his wife, Lori (Saginario) Riggi of Watertown, Robert Riggi and his wife, Lisa (Mannetti) Riggi of Watertown; his grandchildren, Jaime, Joseph III and his fiancé, Alicia Iannicelli, John and his fiancé, Michelle Carpentier, Christopher, Genna and her fiancé, Anthony Rinaldi, Robert Jr. and Nina Marie; and a great-grand daughter, Brianna Iannicelli, a sister-in-law, Mae Santopietro; a brother-in-law, Louis Esposito and his wife, Sandra, all of Watertown; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Martino Riggi. The family would like to thank the staff at Winchester Chest Clinic at Yale New Haven Hospital, especially Dr. Mark Siegel, the team on the tenth floor of the East Pavilion, and the staff at Connecticut Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Joe during his illness. A special thank you also goes out to Carol and K.C. and our lifelong neighbors for always being there for the family. His funeral will be held Monday, July 11, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 309 South Main St. Waterbury for a Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, with full military honors. Calling hours will be held Sunday, 3 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to either Winchester Chest Clinic at Yale New Haven Hospital, 789 Howard Ave., New Haven, CT 06519 or Connecticut Hospice, 2 Trap Falls Road, Shelton, CT 06484.
