Lloyd P. Stauder, 78, of Trumbull CT, died peacefully with family members by his side Tuesday, July 30, 2013.
He was born to the late Edward and Gladys Stauder on February 3, 1935 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. After graduating as president of his class and valedictorian from Lafayette Junior High in Elizabeth, he transferred to Allen Park High School, Allen Park, Michigan, where he excelled as a leader in many organizations and graduated first in his class with several varsity sports letters.
Before high school graduation he also achieved Boy Scouts of America highest honor of Eagle Scout in which he took great pride. He then went on to the University of Notre Dame where he graduated with high honors earning a BS in mechanical engineering. Additionally, he received the army's highest award for four years of ROTC and became a first Lt. in the US Army.
Despite his many accomplishments throughout his life he took the greatest pride in his wife, his six children, Dan Stauder and his wife Sara of Lake Forest, IL, Susan Fatse and her husband Brian of Trumbull, Joe Stauder and his wife Beth of Des Plaines, IL, Katie Amighi and her husband Saman of Framingham, MA, Paul Stauder and his wife Janet of Chester, NJ, Christian Stauder and his wife Jessica of Westport and his eighteen grandchildren, Carey, Cally, Danny, and Sally Stauder, Joseph and Matthew Simoneau, Bridget Fatse, Mary, Grace, and Anne Stauder, Michael and Molly Amighi, Mala, Sean, Timothy, and Thomas Stauder, William and Elizabeth Stauder. In 1957 he married the light of his life, Jeannine Carey of Toledo, OH. The Stauders spent two years of military service in the Army based in California. Upon completion of his military service, he was granted a full scholarship to Georgetown law school which he completed in 1963 and relocated with his family to Connecticut where he began his career with General Electric Company. He subsequently worked for Cluett Peabody Inc. as their international licensing manager. His position required travel to many countries, where he established many life-long friendships. During these first years in Monroe, three more children were born.
In 1972, Lloyd joined Warnaco Inc., as Assistant General Counsel, and spent 14 years, becoming President of Warnaco International and Chief Administrative Officer of Warnaco Inc.
By 1976 the family had moved to their present home in Trumbull. The house was always filled with friends of the children, which Lloyd always enjoyed and encouraged. He retired from the William Carter Company in 1993 as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
He and Jeannine enjoyed several years of international travel after that as well as giving Lloyd the opportunity to engage competitively in one of his favorite sports, tennis.
For thirty years he and his wife spent time each winter in Steamboat Springs, CO skiing. After Jeannine retired in 1994 they began spending their winters out west where they developed many good friendships.
Among Lloyd's numerous accomplishments and activities that made his family very proud were participation in various civic activities were including Vice-Chairman of the Monroe Republican Party, lector for St. Jude's Church, President of the Monroe Jaycees and Chairman of the Trumbull town council. He also received the Outstanding Young Man award in 1967, was a Knight of Malta and was part of the Prison Ministry.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 2 at 10:00am meeting directly in St Catherine of Siena Church in Trumbull with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with Full Military Honors will be in Nichols Farm Burial Grounds located off Shelton Road. Friends may call Thursday August 1, from 4-8pm in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Knights of Malta in Lloyd's memory to (www.orderof malta.int, 1011 1st Av Suite 1350, New York, NY 10022). Lloyd was one of the finest people I've ever been blessed to have had in my life. Although I will sorely miss my dear friend of over 40 years, I cannot even begin to imagine the loss that Jeannine, Dan, Susan, Joe, Katie, Paul and Chris, their spouses and children are experiencing.
