Louis Hidu Obituary

HIDU Louis Hidu, age 89 of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Norma M. King Hidu, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. The youngest of six sons born to Martin and Katherine Zold Hidu, Lou lived most of his life on the same Fairfield farm he was born on. Lou spent two years on the front lines in Italy with the Elite 85th Army Custer Division and received the Combat Infantry Medal, among others. He was a machinist and a gardener by trade and had retired in 1983 as caretaker of the Remington Gun Club in Lordship. As a youngster, Louis was a member of the Sea Scouts in Southport. An avid gun enthusiast, he belonged to the Ansonia Rod & Gun Club and was an accomplished and award-winning skeet and trap shooter. He was inducted into the CT Trapshooting Hall of Fame in 1993. He won 13 state championships with only one person having won the state All-Around more times. Lou loved to hunt, fish and garden. He was a past president of the Fairfield County Horticultural Society and was the recipient of numerous awards for his gardens and flowers. Survivors include three children, Lois Caron of Bridgeport, Patricia Hidu of Fairfield and Louis R. Hidu of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his grandson, Michael L. Murphy; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
