Czubatyj, Lubomyr
Lubomyr Czubatyj, age 72, of Milford, beloved husband of the late Zenovia , and devoted father of Andrew Czubatyj of Seymour and Michael Czubatyj of Milford, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014, at Milford Hospital.
Born in Horodenka, Ukraine to the late Wolodmyr and Myroslava Czubatyj, he came to the United States in 1950 at the age of 7. Mr. Czubatyj was a graduate of Bullard-Haven Technical School and had served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
He was employed at Fletcher-Thompson as a construction engineer for 48 years. He was an active parishioner at Holy Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Bridgeport, where he served as Treasurer of the Church Committee. He was a co-chairman of the Connecticut State Ukrainian Day Committee and served as chairperson for the annual Ukrainian Day Festival held on the grounds of St. Basil College Seminary in Stamford. Mr. Czubatyj was a member of the Ukrainian-American Club in Southport where he served as Treasurer. He and his late wife were devoted supporters of the community of Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate motherhouse facility in Sloutsburg, N.Y., which was very special and dear to their hearts. His generosity and loving spirit will be missed by his family and many friends.
In addition to his two sons, he is survived by one beloved brother and his wife, Jerome and Marie Czubatyj of Milford; his companion, Marian Kozanski of Stamford; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Monday, January 13, 2014 from 4 to 9 pm at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford where a panachida service will be held at 5 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 9 am at the funeral home and at 10 am at Holy Protection of the BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church, 255 Barnum Ave., Bridgeport. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery, Stratford.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions in Mr. Czubatyj's memory to either of two organizaitons that were very important to him Holy Protection of the BVM Church, 255 Barnum Ave., Bridgeport, CT 06610 or the Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate of Sloutsburg, N.Y, which may be made through the family, or the funeral director. Please visit www.pisteyfuneralhome.com to leave condolences online.
