Maryanne Krzewicki
1934-2024
Maryanne (Szczecinski) Krzewicki, age 89, passed peacefully on Thursday, June 20th, 2024. Daughter of the late Leon Szczecinski and Rose (Kowalski) Szczecinski, she was born on December 17th, 1934 in Lackawanna, NY and grew up in the New York City borough of the Bronx. Although a city girl at heart, Maryanne spoke fondly of her childhood summers in Herkimer, NY surrounded by her beloved grandmother, aunts and uncles, and cousins. She attended and graduated high school from Cathedral High School in Manhattan in 1952. Maryanne continued her education and a family legacy of vocational work in the medical field by training at what is now Westchester Medical Center. She attended Westchester Community College in Westchester, NY, completing her Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Radiological Technology, being one of the first students in the class.
On May 5th, 1956, Maryanne was wed to the late John ("Junior") Anthony Krzewicki Jr. at St. Adalbert's Church in the Bronx. From this union, they had one son, Michael, who was born and raised in Yonkers NY.
Maryanne worked as a CT Scan Technologist at a private CAT Scan facility in Westchester, NY and at Phelps Memorial Hospital until her retirement. Later in life, she volunteered at the Milford Hospital Walk-In Center.
Besides her professional feats, Maryanne was extremely, ferociously proud of her Polish heritage. Visitors to her home will remember a small wooden sign reading, "It's a blessing to be Polish," which has followed her from every residence, from New York to Connecticut.
But, above all, her greatest accomplishment and love was her son, who never failed to make her proud. And she always looked forward to a visit from her granddaughters.
After their retirement, Maryanne and Junior moved to Caswell Cove in Milford, CT to be closer to the water. Together, they were frequent and ardent travelers, circumnavigating the globe from Hawaii to Turkey and everywhere in between. Her favorite travel destination was Italy. Maryanne enjoyed the occasion of going out to eat, preferably at an Italian bistro or a place that served some kind of lobster-based dish, and reminiscing about her family, her Herkimer summers, and all the places she had traveled to.
Maryanne was an avid reader and undoubtedly Clive Cussler's biggest fan, with one of his books always tucked in her chair ready for an opportunity to be read.
Surviving is her devoted son, Michael Anthony Krzewicki, loving daughter-in law, Claudia (Monteiro) Krzewicki, and cherished granddaughters, Sofia Rose and Gabriela Grace. She is additionally survived by her sister-in-law, Eleanore Bouteller, her goddaughter, Lynn M. Richard, her close cousin, Giovina 'Jean' (Natarelli) Richard, wife of her precious late cousin John Richard, and their family, and many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides her parents, Maryanne joins her husband, grandparents, Michael Kowalczyk and Bernice (Pedzimacz) Kowalczyk, aunts and uncles, Stanley and Betty Kowalski and Zigmond "Ziggy" and Wanda Kowalski, a sister and brother-in-law, Henry and Dotty Krzewicki, cousin, John Richard, and many dear aunts, uncles, and cousins.
