Michael Grosso Obituary

Michael A. Grosso
Michael Grosso died on February 12, 2024, at home, after a battle with lung cancer, with his family by his side.
Mike was born on May 2, 1946, in Bridgeport, CT to Michael Grosso Sr. and Natalie (Saracino) Grosso. He attended Fairfield Prep and then went on to attend Georgetown University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. He received a Masters Degree and a Sixth Year Certification as a School Psychologist from Fairfield University.
He worked for the Bridgeport Board of Education as a School Psychologist for almost 30 years. It was there that he met his much-loved wife, Judith Rubin Grosso. They got married on October 6, 1979, and made a dynamic duo for over 44 years. Mike was also a terrific father to their daughter, Felicia, and later, a great father-in-law to Felicia's husband, John.
Mike and Judy retired together in 2003. They took advantage of their newly retired status by traveling together. Their adventures included: a trans-Atlantic cruise to Europe, several trips to the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, and a two month cross-country trip exploring the U.S.
One of Mike's favorite activities in retirement was volunteering at Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo. In his 13 years volunteering, he served as a docent as well as two-time President of the Volunteer Council. He was honored as one of the highest "Lifetime Earners", with over 4,000 hours of service. He was designated by the Zoo for the honor of "Hometown Hero" and was a mentor to many fellow volunteers.
In addition to his wife, daughter and son-in-law, those who will miss Michael include his sister, Rose Gulas, niece, Jeneen Thorp, and her husband, Mike, of Bradenton, FL, as well as many other friends and family members.
A celebration of life service for Michael will be held Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son, Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, Connecticut 06468. Following the celebration of life service will be an interment at 11:30 a.m. at Saint John the Baptist Cemetery, Moose Hill Road, Monroe, CT 06468.
In lieu of flowers, people can honor Mike's passion for wildlife education and conservation by making a donation to the Connecticut Beardsley Zoo in his name.
