Norma's family and friends have suffered a tremendous loss; however blessings were given to each of the people she touched. Never have I experienced a closer mother/daughter relationship as she and Sherri shared. I often felt like another daughter to Norma and Marty as Sherri and I have traveled through life together as close friends. We have had fun times together and will always feel our "psychic" connection. My sympathy and love go out to Marty, Sherri, Leon and Dean.

Even though we haven't seen each other in awhile we kept in touch with e-mail. We will never forget all the fun we had together in Trumbull. How you decided to teach me how to be a Jewish American Princess.

You will always be in my thoughts and my prayers. Someday we will meet again. I know you are happy being with David again. Peace be with you friend.

To MJM - Words cannot describe my sorrow that I will never see you again. We had a special relationship. Just this morning, I was remembering your hearty "hah-hah-HAH", totally infectious laughter, which made me cry once more. You were a part of my life that I relished from when I first met you. My extreme sympathies last for you loving husband, Marty, your children and grandchildren, my "sister", Linda Jewell, and for all of your relatives. Missing you, YJD, Janet

COUSIN NORMA:

IT WAS A MEMORABLE EVENING MEETING ALL MY COUSINS AND SPENDING TIME WITH AUNT DOROTHY,(ALSO RECENTLY DECEASED),AT AUNT FLO'S NINETIETH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION. I WAS A LITTLE GIRL WHEN I MET MANY OF THE BERKES...AND SOME OF THE YOUNGER COUSINS,I HAD NEVER MET AT ALL.

ONE OF THE DELIGHTS OF THE EVENING WAS DISCOVERING MY NEW FRIEND SHERRI, YOUR DELIGHTFUL DAUGHTER. WE HAVE BEEN WRITING TO EACH OTHER AND SHE HAD BEEN TELLING ME OF YOUR ILLNESS AND VALIANT STRUGGLE.

NOW YOU ARE GONE, TOO YOUNG, TOO SOON.

THE BERKE CLAN'S WARMTH, HUMOR AND STRONG SENSE OF FAMILY LEFT A DEEP AND GENUINELY PROFOUND IMPRESSION ON ME THAT EVENING. I WATCHED EVERYONE SHARE SO MUCH LOVE AND APPRECIATION FOR EACH OTHER.. AND THE RESPECT AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE IMPORTANCE OF FAMILY FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION WAS SO INTENSELY EVIDENT...THE JOY WAS OVERFLOWING.(I ONLY REGRET I DID NOT BRING MY SONS).. HOWEVER, IT WAS WONDERFUL MY PARENTS COULD BE THERE..AND I AM SO PLEASED I TOOK SO MANY PHOTOS OF THE ENTIRE MISHPOCHEH.

I ADORED SEEING HOW MUCH COUSIN MARTY LOVED YOU. YOUR ILLNESS HAS SADDENED YOUR DAUGHTER SHERRI SO.. AND AS I READ YOUR GUEST BOOK, I REALIZED HOW MUCH OF YOURSELF YOU SHARED WITH SO MANY. THANK YOU FOR SHARING A LITTLE PART OF SHERRI WITH ME.

WHEN ONE OF OUR BELOVED CATS PASSES AWAY, I TELL MY CHILDREN OUR CAT HAS LEFT ON A VOYAGE TO "CAT HEAVEN". PERHAPS YOU HAVE OPTED FOR CAT HEAVEN AS WELL. PLEASE SCRATCH MY BABIES UNDER THEIR CHIN), GREYSTONE,ALCHEMY, BABY GANACHE, CANELLE AND PIPI ..TELL THEM THEIR SON/BROTHER/FRIEND NUIT MISSES THEM AND SAYS MEOW!

GIVE AUNT DOROTHY A HUGE KISS.

HEARTFELT CONDOLENCES TO MARTY, SHERRI, DEAN AND THEIR FAMILIES..AND ALL THE GRANDCHILDREN...IT'S SO DIFFICULT TO LOSE A TERRIFIC GRANDMA!

MAY PEACE BE WITH YOU AND ALL THOSE THAT CHERISHED YOU, AMEN.

There are truly no words great enouugh to describe the wonderful lady that is Norma Berke. She trusted me with one of her most treasured items, a beautiful calico kitten named Kallirex Terra Cotta of Rexdancer. Every time I see "Terri", I think of Norma - her spirit, her graciousness, her vitality and her giving nature. Norma will live on through her cats for many years to come and be thought of fondly with each passing generation of kittens with Figment in their pedigree. I look back fondly on the CFA Annual banquets when we sincerely congratulated each other after picking up our awards.

My sincere condolences to Marty, and her family - she will be missed!

The cat fancy has lost a wonderful woman who cared about others and her beautiful Cornish Rex cats. She had a ascerbic wit, and was always fun to be around. She fought a valiant battle against the cancer that took her life ultimately. Norma, we know you have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge and are with your loved ones. We will never forget you here on earth. Our lives are indeed richer for having known you. God Bless You and your family.

Dear Norma:

I will always be grateful for giving me my start in CFA. I have many photos and memories of our quiet times together. Your helping me with grooming tips, and your knowledge of pedigrees and breeding advice is missed so much.

I am so happy that 2 years ago this September, Marty and You were able to come to celebrate at Damn Yankees Cat Club both Phyllis and my 2 GP Kallirex Star Burst and Kallirex Star Fire of Al-Lei. A picture of you holding our kitten Star Dust, aka Dusty, was the feature in the Norwich Times. I enjoyed bringing that litter to your home to critique for Phyllis and I. Although you were in pain, you were so happy with these kittens running around your bed. I am happy Dusty gave you many months of joy and happiness.

The quality of your friendship with Phyllis Jacobowitz and Linda Jewell will never be lost.

Norma you will live on in so many of our hearts. You raised the bar on the look and temperment of today's Cornish Rex!!! Thank you doesn't do you justice.

With warm regard and love,

Natalie S. Rawls, North Haven, CT.

I hardly know what to say. Norma was in the cat fancy when I started and she was the best company. Whenever I see a Cornish Rex 'dancing' on the judging table... or even eat chopped liver... I'll think of Norma. I missed her smiling face when she moved to Florida and miss her more now.

Words can't express how much I valued our friendship. Our wonderful times together are deeply implanted in my memory, so you shall live on with them. It is much sadness to have to think

of Norma in the past, as I was so looking forward to her visit in December again with me. She has missed 2 years of not being able to

be here due to her illness, but she was most hopeful to visit in 2005. Norma was a faithful and loyal friend to all she cared for, a typical "jewish mother" in every way--protective, loving and dedicated to any task she took on.

It has been so depressing with all the ups and downs she has been through for the last several years, and we were all so hopeful for a full recovery. It was Norma's time to go and out of the pain and suffering. She is at peace now with her son, David, who Norma still spoke of so frequently. It is so true, "God only takes the best". Miss you Norma.
