Olga Kowalsky Obituary

Kowalsky, Olga
Olga Kowalsky, age 91 of Seymour, beloved wife of the late Sergey Kowalsky, died Friday, December 21, 2012, at the Bishop Wicke Health Care Center, Shelton, surrounded by her family. Born in Ansonia on July 25, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Theodore F. and Anna Spiwak Worobel. Mrs. Kowalsky was a 1939 Graduate of Ansonia High School and 1941 Graduate of Ansonia Business College where she studied bookkeeping and secretarial skills. Having many careers throughout her life, Olga worked as a clerk for the CT DMV, a cashier for the local Stop and Save Grocery Stores, and doing her part for the war effort in WWII, she served her country by becoming a heavy crane operator at the Farrell Co. A multi-talented woman, she loved to cook, share recipes; she was a passionate gardener and was often spotted with her pruning shears and clippers in hand. Olga loved and cared for all. Her friendliness, cheerfulness, generosity and kindness were endless. She consistently visited and supported friends and families in times of need. Her address book, packed with contacts, was her prized possession as she loved the telephone and keeping in touch with all. Ultimately, Olga Kowalsky was the family matriarch - a passionate mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Always proud of her children and grandchildren- she would speak to each of them weekly. Each of her grandchildren were blessed with a crocheted afghan, crafted by her hands in their college colors. Olga will be forever remembered as Gee Gee by her cherished great-grandchildren. A woman of great faith, she was a devout and lifelong member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church, where she taught her children and grandchildren the love of Jesus Christ. She especially enjoyed the cultural traditions of the Holy Days. At Easter, Olga would bake dozens of babkas and pinch hundreds of pierogi to distribute to friends and family. Cape Cod was a special part of Olga's life. She enjoyed clamming, the sun and the unspoiled beaches. Linguini and clam sauce made from fresh clams was a Cape Cod staple. She also loved vacationing in Maine. Olga would wait for the catch of the day to prepare a feast for all. Olga Kowalsky is survived by her devoted children and their spouses, Cynthia (Robert) Hinds of OH, Marsha (Edward) Schuck, of Seymour, Barbara (Roger) Levine of Seymour, and Donald (Maryann) Kowalsky of Guilford; a beloved sister, Esther Rozum of Seymour; 10 cherished grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Martha Worobel of FL and brother-in-law, John Chucta of Seymour. She was predeceased by sisters, Martha Tuz, June Chucta, Mary Piorkowski and brothers, John & Michael Worobel. Funeral Services will take place on Friday, December 28, 2012, at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 105 Clifton Ave., Ansonia at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Derby. Family and friends may call on Thursday, December 27, 2012, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM; Panikhida at 6:30 PM. Olga's family wishes to express their sincerest thanks and appreciation to the staff of Bishop Wicke Health Care Center and its Physical Therapy Dept. for their compassionate and heartfelt care. Memorial contributions may be made to the Preservation Fund of Sts. Peter and Paul Church. Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.

I remember Olga fondly - from playing at the Kowalsky home as a young girl, to seeing her with all of you right through our high school years. May your loving memories of such a lovely lady comfort you.
