Patricia Byrne Obituary

Byrne , Patricia Tierney
Patricia Tierney Byrne, was born in Greens Farms, CT on July 23, 1926 and died in Delray Beach, FL on July 3, 2014. Beloved third child of Howard S. Tierney and Belle T. Tierney, she grew up happily with her brother, the late Howard S. Tierney, Jr. of Fairfield, CT and her sister, the late Gene T. Lee of Houston, TX. Mrs. Byrne attended Greens Farms School and Bedford School in Westport, CT before attending St. Catherine's School in Richmond, VA, Miss Porter's School in Farmington, CT and Holton-Arms School in Bethesda, MD. Following graduation, she attended Barnard College and Finch College in New York, NY. In October, 1947, she married Elliott W. Reed of Savannah, GA. Widowed in 1964, she married the late Donn H. Byrne in 1967 and for 46 years lived happily with him in Southport, CT and Delray Beach, FL. Mrs. Byrne was a devoted mother, avid golfer, enthusiastic bridge player and frequent volunteer for community service activities. In 1962, she co-founded the Fairfield Women's Exchange which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary and in 1977 was co-chair of one of the largest Consignment Sale Benefits for Fairfield Country Day School featuring the sale of a saddle horse. She is survived by her children Elliott W. Reed of Fairfield, CT, David M. Reed of New Canaan, CT, John R. Byrne of Orlando, FL and Peter R. Byrne of Indianapolis, IN and her stepchildren Jody Byrne of Streetsboro, OH, Donn H. Byrne II of Albuquerque, NM, Suzanne S. Byrne of Santa Fe, NM, her sister-in-law Jane Tierney of Fairfield, CT, twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30am on Saturday, August 23 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 651 Pequot Avenue in Southport, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Fairfield Women's Exchange, 332 Pequot Avenue, Southport, CT 06890.
