Peter Barnes Obituary

Peter Barnes
Pete Barnes, of Newtown, CT, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 27 in his favorite chair at his home that he had built with his wife, Carol. Pete was loved by all those who knew him. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Carol, of 35 years, beloved father to his son, Travis, loyal friend to many, young at heart, genuine, gracious and always grateful for all life had afforded him.
Pete's family was originally from Massachusetts and came south to raise the family in Trumbull, CT. He was never far away from his roots or his friends. He was a patriot, proud of his country and his service in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War from 1965-1969. He was also a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox. Pete's career started as an artist who honed his skills in the union as an ironworker, then turned to smaller contracting positions working as a craftsman on jobs with private clients and friends.
Pete was an avid golfer and will be missed on the links by his buddies. He has many nieces and nephews that gave him great joy throughout his life. He was predeceased by his brothers Charles (Rick) and Jeff Barnes. He is survived by his wife Carol, son Travis, sister Sue Barnes Coyne, brothers Steve and Donald Barnes, and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
The memorial service is planned for Saturday, October 7 at 1:00 p.m. at Pete and Carol's home.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Officer Adam James and the Newtown Police Department for their support and kindness during this tragic time. To leave an online condolence please visit www.spadaccinofuneralhome.com.

I grew up along with Pete and the other "Barnes Kids" who lived across the street from me. I remember them all very well. We had hundreds of childhood adventures on Canoe Brook Lake and in the surrounding woods and fields. Pete was one of those memories - a good guy who will be forever missed by all who knew him. Please accept my sincerest condolences at his loss.

So saddened to hear of Pete's passing. I remember when the Barnes family built their house in Trumbull. What a joy to have playmates. And play we did. It's amazing the strong feelings of love and loss after all these years.

Carol,
We have never met but I met Pete as I was driving home in Stepney one day and he was getting the mail at the mailbox where I had many times seen the name and wondered if he was from the Trumbull neighborhood where the Lattanzio's and the Dominko's lived. We talked briefly and it was apparent that he was one of the friendliest and nicest people I had ever met. My condolences go out to you and the Barnes families.
