Pete

It's been 5 years...it's just not fair...you should still be here with all your loved ones and friends...that photo of you on this website captures you as much as any photo I've ever seen of anyone! It almost brings you right here - in January of 2025...I'd love to hear your putdowns of the moron who will be sworn in on Jan 20th....damn Pete, I miss you so much!

Your friend - always

Coming up upon the 4th anniversary of your death,
Of late You have been on my mind. Was thinking of life and some of the people who made profound impact for the better on me, and You Peter are at the top of that list. I wish You were here so I could tell You one more time Thank You and I love You. You taught me as a young man that in spite of what I thought, I was NOT garbage. And You actually were able to convince me of this and not doubt it.
So for lack of immediate presence, I will make it a point to do my best to be of good use to others, reminding them of their value as human beings, to let them know it matters very much what happens to them and how they feel.
Peter your influence and example are priceless. Give my regards to Joan and Walter up there too please.
Love, MS

Pete

It's now been two years. It is so difficult for me to comprehend/accept that you aren't with us any longer. The photo of you on this website is incredible - because it makes me feel that I can reach out and give you a big hug ...it's a wonderful photo and it is so you!

Tomorrow - January 10, I'll be lighting a Yahrzeit candle in your honor. The only two people I have ever done that for are my mother and father. But not having you around anymore has left such an enormous hole in my life and in my comprehension of reality that I realize that from now on, I want to light 3 Yahrzeit candles every year. You were that special to me.

Your friend forever,
Ken

Pete

You are so terribly missed. But I feel your presence all the time - and the wonderful photo that accompanied this message so perfectly captures you that it is almost supernatural. There you are Pete, with that sweet smile of yours. When I look at it, I can almost hear your voice and that great laugh of yours. It is so unfair that you didn't live to a ripe old age so that you could enjoy your family and friends for decades to come.

Your friend forever,
Ken

Pete and I first met in 1968 when we were freshmen at Ithaca College. We got
to know each better in our sophomore year when we lived in the same dorm,
and then became close friends when we shared an apartment with two other
guys in our junior and senior years.

We both went through our share of ups and downs in life, and we were always
there for each other - whether it was to share the good times or support
each other during the rough times. Pete personified what it meant to be a
caring and loyal friend. His kindness and sincerity were so basic to the
kind of person he was.

However, in all honesty, until I read the many beautiful tributes to Pete
on this page by former students of his - I really wasn't fully aware of the
kind of impact he had on so many people during his long teaching career. And
in speaking with some members of Pete's family, they weren't either. What a
testament to Pete's values, ability to communicate with people, and his
commitment to future generations of young people!

Listening to the wonderful and deeply moving tributes by Mathew and Rachel
to their beloved father allowed me to see Pete the Dad in a deeper and more
personal way than ever before. Of course, I knew that Pete had been always
been very close to Mathew and Rachel, but hearing their tributes brought it
home to me in such a vivid and emotional way. Pete so deserved to see his
kids and two grandchildren as both he and they grew older.

As for Pete's wife Carrie, just seeing the two of them together, along with
how Pete would talk about Carrie, made it so very clear how much they loved
each other and how terribly unfair it is that they won't be able to grow old
together.

The world lost a truly beautiful human being when Pete passed away on
January 10 - his 71st birthday. But his memory will live on among all those
who knew him and loved him.

This is heartbreaking news. Peter was a true teacher in every sense of the word. WIth passion and conviction he taught us about the world and ourselves. He was also a great friend and advocate for us "at risk youth". He knew how to neutralize those risks to ourselves and make us better people. God bless him and his good family.

My condolences to Peter's family during this difficult time. This breaks my heart. Peter cared so much about his students, during our time under his wing and well after we left. He never gave up on us, no matter how much we wanted to. He was always there for his students teaching us so much more then what was in a book. He touched so many lives, including mine. He was such a special soul and he will be missed. Rest peacefully, Pete.

Pete,
There are no words to describe you. You are beyond amazing. You have taught us lessons that we still take with us today. You were so selfless when it came to your students and did everything you possibly could to make us the best we could be. I may not have realized it at the time but it was an absolute honor to have you as my teacher. Thank you for your patience, love, support and all the things you have taught us. You may be gone but you will never be forgotten. Heaven gained an awesome angel. RIP Peter we love you

I am so sad to hear of Pete's passing. I was a student of his and he was not only an amazing teacher but an amazing person. He truly cared for each one of his students. He always believed in us even if we didn't. He never gave up on us when we gave up on ourselves. So many of us, myself included, would not be where we are today if it were not for Pete. My heart goes out to his family & friends in this difficult time.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family and close friends of this amazing man. I, like so many others was a student of Petes' and like so many others I would not have graduated had it not been for Pete. He was the one person in our lives at that time, that wouldn't give up on us or allow us to fail. For me he was the only one who didn't give up. I am a successful man, I have a good job, a wonderful family, a nice home, none of which would have come to be without Pete. Like so many others, I owe him a debt that he would never want paid. Truly a teacher and one of the most selfless, kind, and giving people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. Thank you, thank you, thank you kind Sir for sharing yourself with those of us who desperately needed you.

Rest well,
One of your co-op kids

I met Pete when I was a misguided troubled teen. I spent just over 3 years in his community. Early mornings of economical or political discussions over coffee from my perch on the tattered red chair. He taught me through debate to have an opinion and have a voice. I very likely may not have graduated without his support. I met him at my worst and he prepared me for my best. For the time I spent in High school I consider Pete to have been one of my most influential and BEST friends. I've thought of him often over the years and this news deeply saddens me. Live on in the memories of all who were blessed to have known you Pete. You made a difference!!

I am so terribly sad to hear this news. Pete was my teacher at co-op and I could not of made it through my teen years without him. I often think of him. He helped mold me into the empathetic and civic minded individual that I am today. Everyday we had to bring in a news article about current events and he taught us to be mindful of the world around us. He also had a great sense of humor that always lightened tough times. He always took time to talk through personal issues and give me guidance. What a great teacher who truly cared. I will always remember you fondly.

I would like to send my condolences to Pete's family and friends. My name is Matthew Wheeling and I was a student at Coop in the late eighties and nineties. Peter had the patience and the compassion of a saint. He was always concerned about the wellbeing of the students. I will miss his witty sense of humor and his kind heart. You were one of the best Pete!

Pete, I wouldn't have graduated high school without your guidance. Too many memories to share, but I'll always remember video production class and you pushing us to finish that Co-Op video yearbook. Those were great times. R.I.P. my friend.
